Job Description:

Assist department director with daily department operations and managing the departmental budget. Contributes to and executes the department's strategic plan, setting a clear vision and following through on key initiatives and deliverables. Establishes, implements, and evaluates departmental policies and procedures in collaboration with institutional leadership and compliance standards. Represents the department and university in internal and external meetings, serving as a liaison to academic, corporate, community, and governmental stakeholders as appropriate to the department's function. Assists with hiring and developing departmental staff by setting clear performance expectations, providing ongoing coaching and feedback, and addressing performance issues. Ensures staff compliance with all regulatory requirements and fulfills reporting obligations to accreditation bodies, compliance offices, and senior leadership within required deadlines. Other duties as assigned. Counsels students and parents regarding the availability of financial aid. Reviews financial aid applicant files for accuracy and verifies selected students with the Department of Education. Updates information to the Department of Education for verified students and makes necessary corrections. Processes letters to students for items needed to complete financial aid files and ensures eligibility criteria are met. Assists with creating and updating financial aid forms, reporting financial aid recipients to the state, and signing drop/add forms. Counsels veterans regarding benefits and assists with VA certification. Packages students with financial aid funds according to federal and state regulations. Downloads entrance and exit counseling reports, exports loans to loan guarantor, and imports response and disbursement files into the financial aid system. Reviews students' enrollment status and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP after the drop/add period and adjusts aid accordingly. Assists with determining excess financial aid, SAP determination, federal grants reporting, and reconciliation of loan accounts. Communicates with faculty for midterm or final grades, the Department of Education on policy issues, and assists with enrollment verification for loan borrowers.

Work Experience:

  • 1+ year of higher education experience as financial aid assistant director [Required]
  • 2+ years of higher education financial aid experience [Preferred]
