DARIEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS DARIEN, CONNECTICUT VACANCY: ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF FINANCE - PAYROLL AND BENEFITS TWELVE-MONTH POSITION (NON-UNION) REPORTS TO: Director of Finance and Operations COMPENSATION: Competitive salary according to experience. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the coordination and processing of necessary payrolls and payroll/benefits related activities; answers inquiries from employees, employers and others concerning payroll procedures and policies, employee earning and deductions and tax related information, and contract provisions related to pay Process Medicare and COBRA forms for appropriate agency Prepare and transmit monthly, yearly, and other reports for Teachers' Retirement Board, as needed Assist in preparing various reports, including, but not limited to, quarterly State Department of Labor, Wage and Research Information Report; annual survey of Government Employment Bureau of the Census (as required); monthly and annual annuity reports; fiscal classified employee retirement plans for Town Hall Process and transmit fringe benefit and payroll deductions including, but not limited to, life, medical, dental, retirement, TSA, pension, deferred compensation, HSA, etc. and maintain related records (balancing, billing, vouchers, and payments) for all fringe and payroll benefits deductions Assist in quarterly tax reconciliation and filing; reconcile, prepare, and make available yearly W-2 forms Audit reporting on compensated absences and TRB salaries MUNIS Self Service implementation and maintenance Interface with insurance representatives as needed to ensure timely and accurate data processing Perform open enrollment process 1095-C reporting and filing HSA limit changes and funding Life Insurance monthly self-billing 403b/457b/401a plan oversight and funding Town of Darien individual pension/refund calculation Such other duties as may be assigned QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible financial experience, preferably in public sector or school finance Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles (GAAP, GASB) Proficiency in financial management systems (Munis) and Microsoft Excel Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Excellent written and oral communication skills PHYSICAL, MENTAL EXERTION/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: Performs duties in an office environment. May be required to lift and move light to medium weights (up to 15 pounds), for example, office supplies, etc. Uses repetitive motions in operating office equipment, including keyboards, calculators, check signers, fax machines, scanners and copiers. Must be able to hear clearly (correctable to within normal limits) to record telephone information, and to see to complete applications and forms. Adaptive technology may be used. Must be able to work well in a collegial environment.
