    The Assistant Director independently manages all aspects of athletic equipment and apparel operations for intercollegiate athletic programs. This position exercises discretion and independent judgment in the procurement, vendor management, NCAA/conference compliance oversight, budget administration, and policy development for equipment operations. The Assistant Director reports to the Assistant Athletics Director of Equipment Operations.

    • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, manage competing priorities, and make program-level decisions without close supervision.
    • Strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and conference regulations governing equipment, apparel, and awards.
    • Proficiency with inventory management systems (e.g., ARMS or equivalent); ability to analyze data and produce reports.
    • Excellent organizational, communication, and budget management skills.
    • Valid Driver's License; ability to work evenings and weekends as required for competitions.
    • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience managing equipment operations for multiple sports programs simultaneously.
    • Knowledge of ice hockey equipment and operations.
    • Experience with vendor negotiation and procurement processes.
    • Minimum three years of experience in athletic equipment management, with demonstrated supervisory or program management responsibility.
    • Familiarity with Ivy League compliance standards.
    • Active certification by the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA), or eligibility and commitment to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.

    Key Accountabilities

    Description

    Equipment Operations Administration

    • Independently administers equipment operations and serves as primary contact for assigned varsity sport programs.
    • Coordinates equipment and apparel distribution programs for assigned sports and monitors operational effectiveness.
    • Implements procedures to improve equipment accountability, distribution, and inventory accuracy.
    • Plans and coordinates equipment requirements for practices, competitions, and team travel for assigned sports.
    • Monitors compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA regulations related to equipment issuance, apparel distribution, and embellishment programs.
    • Leads and directs practices, pre/during/post-gameday (home and away) equipment needs, specific to ice hockey program.
    • Exercises independent judgement in identifying equipment need of repair or replacement and recommends purchasing priorities based on inventory and equipment condition.

    Equipment Management

    • Evaluates all embellishment orders and apparel branding independently and has final sign-off authority to approve or reject orders based on compliance standards.
    • Assists with equipment and apparel requests within established policies and budget guidelines.
    • Ensuring equipment care, maintenance expectations, and departmental procedures are followed.
    • Monitors eligibility rosters via ARMS software and independently determines eligibility for equipment issuance; resolves ambiguous eligibility situations using independent judgment.
    • Completes remaining laundry tasks when student workers are not available.
    • Manages participation award programs, including independently coordinating vendor relationships and ensuring awards conform to NCAA regulations.
