The Assistant Director of Research Enhancement in the Division of Research and Innovation~

Department of Research Enhancement and Compliance Services provides diverse administrative

and operational support to the Director of Research Enhancement with assistance to Research

Compliance Programs regarding the use of subject and substance research. This position helps

ensure meetings, communications, and logistics run smoothly, contributing to an efficient and

effective research compliance environment.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Provide diverse and complex administrative support to senior level manager by implementing day-to-day administrative procedures and processes. Establishes and maintains departmental standard operating procedures, guidelines, policies, files, records, and reports. Follows procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of files and records.
  • Coordinate the development and maintenance of electronic forms and administration software data base management systems (ie. TOPAZ, MEDICAT, QUALTRICS etc.) for the human subjects, animal care and use, institutional biosafety, and radiation safety research compliance programs.
  • Coordinate, administer and maintain Occupational Health and Safety Program via MEDICAT for research faculty, staff and students who use animals and radiation in research.
  • Coordinate and convene research compliance committee meetings. Compose review and distribute confidential and complex correspondence, reports, forms, and documents that are sent to internal and external contacts. Responds independently within scope of responsibility. Assist with oversight, attendance and coordination of committee meetings and communicate outcomes to investigators, relevant institutional officials, and federal agencies. This includes, but is not limited to preparing meeting agendas, tracking attendance/quorum during meetings, and drafting/finalizing detailed meeting minutes.
  • Serves as a liaison and provide administrative support with research faculty, committees, and external contacts in providing information and determining appropriate course of action for routine and moderately complex matters within the department. Managing research protocol submission, review, and approval on the TOPAZ software database. Performs an administrative pre-review of Institutional Biosafety Committee, Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee protocols for completeness, consistency, and compliance. Resolves administrative discrepancies and deficiencies prior to committee review.
  • Assist senior level management with the acquiring and sustaining Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP)
  • Managing post-approval activities such as animal care facility inspections, semiannual program reviews, continuing reviews, protocol amendment and communicating noncompliance reports to relevant stakeholders.
  • Compiles statistics and gathers and computes various data and verifies accuracy of information. Prepares graphs and charts for management use or presentations about compliance activities.
  • Assist with development and roll out of inhouse compliance training programs, workshops, seminars, guidance documents and other outreach and educational tools and training related research compliance programs for all researchers.
  • Assists with administering and managing the Time and Effort Certification review processes. Must be knowledgeable of federal regulatory agency guidelines and policies for time and effort certification.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Work Experience

5 years of research compliance administration.
