Position Summary
DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Director of Campus Recreation is responsible for supporting the Director of Campus Recreation in the development and management of the campus recreation program with particular focus on competitive sports.
OUTCOMES:
- Development, management, and maintenance of a purposeful, effective, and safe competitive recreational sports program that fosters a positive student experience for all participants (recreators and student employees).
- The climbing wall will be well-maintained, safe, effectively-operating, and appropriately programmed.
- Appropriate support for all Campus Recreation initiatives.
Essential Functions
Club Sport Management 30%
- Provide supervision and oversight for club sports including, but not limited to: budget management, risk management, leadership training and development, marketing and promotion, equipment purchase and inventory, facility reservation and usage, club travel, fundraising, student recruitment, alumni relations, and student and club compliance and conduct.
- Manage student staff (hire, train, schedule, evaluate, supervise).
Intramural Sport Management 30%
- Design and schedule all intramural leagues.
- Manage student staff (hire, train, schedule, evaluate, supervise).
- Review and update intramural sport rules and handbooks.
- Market all intramural programs.
- Manage all intramural budget lines.
- Manage intramural equipment purchase and inventory.
Climbing Wall manager 30%
- Oversee upkeep of the climbing wall facilities, including regular maintenance and inspections.
- Inventory and purchase climbing wall supplies and equipment.
- Oversee the hiring, training/development, scheduling, and evaluation of all student employees who serve in support roles for the climbing wall.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and usage.
- Create and implement user training and safety programs.
- Promote and program the climbing wall for effective utilization.
Campus, Division and Department Support 10%
- Attend campus, division and departmental staff meetings and trainings as required.
- Participate in campus, division, and departmental functions such as hearing boards, open houses, committee work, and special events.
Experience and Education Required
- Bachelor's Degree; Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in campus recreation administration and personnel management.
- American Red Cross CPR/AED and basic first aid certifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively in a collegiate setting with enrolled and prospective students, faculty, administrators, staff, alumni and the greater college community.
- Ability to manage and coordinate departmental programs and services.
- Excellent organization, communication (verbal, interpersonal, and written), attention to detail, and customer relations skills.
- Ability to work independently.
