Assistant Director of Accounting


A large, established organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Director of Accounting to help lead accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and a team of accounting professionals.

What You'll Be Responsible For:



  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations and general ledger activities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting processes

  • Ensure accounting practices comply with GAAP, GASB, and applicable regulations

  • Oversee internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures

  • Review reconciliations and financial activity for accuracy and compliance

  • Oversee accounting related to organizational assets

  • Lead, coach, and develop accounting and support staff

  • Participate in hiring, performance management, training, and employee development

  • Partner with IT and leadership on financial system enhancements, upgrades, and implementations

  • Coordinate annual audits and related financial reporting

  • Serve as a financial resource to internal departments and organizational leadership

  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, standardize procedures, and improve efficiency

  • Support strategic initiatives and special accounting projects


What We're Looking For:



  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

  • 3+ years of experience managing or supervising accounting professionals

  • Government, education, or public-sector accounting experience strongly preferred

  • Strong knowledge of governmental accounting principles and practices

  • Understanding of GAAP, GASB, internal controls, and financial reporting

  • Experience working with large, integrated financial systems

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent advanced training

  • CPA preferred

  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and analytical skills

  • Hands-on and collaborative management style

  • Comfortable leading teams through change, system improvements, and process enhancements


Salary: $103K–$125K
