Assistant Director, Health Sciences Library (Associate/Full Librarian)

Research & Learning (R&L) Team Management

• Provides vision and administrative oversight for the R&L team, which includes six health sciences liaison faculty librarians.
• Leads the R&L team in delivering a full range of knowledge-based services, including evidence-based practice instruction, informatics training, and advanced research support (e.g., systematic and scoping reviews).
• Drives an innovative approach to identifying and evaluating new information services and models that will meet the evolving needs of clinical, educational, and research constituencies and align with UAHSL commitments to resource sustainability.

Strategic Administrative Leadership

• Leads the planning, implementation, and contracting of services for external entities, including clinical affiliates and non-university partners.
• Represents the Library on UA Health Sciences-wide initiatives, as requested by the Director, to enhance the impact and relevance of programming for all stakeholder groups.
• Oversees library emergency preparedness and ensures alignment with university-wide strategic initiatives to foster a welcoming and positive environment.

Outreach & Engagement

• Coordinates UAHSL's outreach strategy, including exhibits, events, and internship programs, in coordination with R&L librarians and Operations personnel.
• Collaborates with faculty librarians and campus partners to strengthen relationships with academic, research, and clinical stakeholders.
• Serves as a representative to the Arizona Health Information Network (AZHIN) and other regional or national partners, as designated by the Director.
• Works collaboratively with UAHSL AZHIN personnel and AZHIN colleagues to expand access to critical health information by participating in consortium planning, licensing discussions, budgeting conversations, and resource negotiations.

Collaborative Collection Management and Resource Coordination

• Serves as a primary collaborator with UAL Collection Services personnel to support the development, management, and assessment of digital and print library collections.
• Coordinates communication between UAHSL and UAL Collection Services regarding resource requests, curriculum support needs, licensing priorities, and collection assessment.
• Assist with collection planning decisions informed by institutional priorities, budget realities, accreditation needs, and user feedback.
• Support resource evaluation activities, including trials, usage assessment, and stakeholder consultation.

Professional Contributions

• Maintains a personal plan for continuing professional development.
• Contributes to the field of health sciences librarianship through active professional service and scholarly publications and presentations.
• The Libraries support the UA's strategic initiatives designed to create a welcoming environment for all faculty, staff, and students. The candidate is expected to support related strategic efforts in UAHSL and UAL.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to lead and supervise in a collaborative, innovative, and complex academic environment, including mentoring librarians and other information professionals and coaching for success.
• Expertise in liaison librarian models and services within health sciences or related disciplines.
• Knowledge of systematic reviews and related library services.
• Knowledge of collections and information management issues.
• Awareness of current trends and issues in academic health sciences library services and higher education in general.
• Familiarity with the contemporary academic health sciences environment and the typical mission areas of an academic health sciences campus.
• Ability to serve as an effective advocate for the library in its educational and outreach missions.
