Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Assistant Director for Visitor Services is responsible for overseeing campus partner engagement for weekday visits and large-scale admissions events, including developing and sustaining strong relationships with campus partners and key community stakeholders. This position collaborates across campus and with external partners to advance departmental initiatives, support visitor reception efforts, and contribute to departmental assessment activities, with a particular focus on evaluating and strengthening partnerships.

This position contributes to the development of visit strategies that determine the success of USC's enrollment goals. The Assistant Director evaluates visit program logistics and develops, implements, and assesses processes related to visitor reception, customer service, student staffing, visitor engagement, and space functionality.

The Assistant Director supervises the Manager of Visitor Services and provides backup coverage and support for the Welcome Center. This position will work with campus and community partners to support this effort.

This position contributes to the development of visit strategies that determine the success of USC's enrollment goals. The Assistant Director is also expected to periodically participate in various on and off-campus activities and events.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor's degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.

Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials

Must have a valid drivers license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in higher education setting, especially campus visit programming and/or enrollment management.
  • Expertise in managing multiple projects from concept stage through production and delivery and in using project management tools.
  • General knowledge of Technolutions Slate or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system is a plus.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent organizational skills, mastery of logistics and high level of attention to detail relative to managing multiple projects.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills and ability to collaborate and negotiate with others to arrive at amendable solutions and deliverables.
  • Must be able to cultivate and manage key relationships with internal constituents, university partners, and external vendors.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities concurrently.
  • Individual must be responsible, creative, and capable of working independently to handle the considerable duties, volume of traffic, problem-solving, and decision making.
  • Must be able to work independently and with little direct supervision, but also collaboratively as a member of a team.
  • Position requires some evening and weekend work.

Job Duty

Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with academic colleges, departments, and campus partners to coordinate participation in the university's campus visit program. Oversee the planning and administration of academic information sessions, appointment requests, and related registration processes. Manage academic information session web content and ensure information remains accurate and current. Analyze and distribute visit reports and data for weekday visits and large-scale recruitment events to support strategic decision-making and continuous program improvement.

Supervise the Visit Coordinator by providing leadership, coaching, performance management, and professional development. Ensure effective oversight of visitor reception operations, including check-in processes, student staffing support, and satellite Visitor Center coverage. Collaborate with departmental leadership to evaluate service delivery, provide operational feedback, and support assessment of University Ambassador performance and training initiatives.

Develop, maintain, and communicate departmental policies, procedures, training materials, and program documentation related to Visitor Center services. Review and update operational resources to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with departmental and university standards.

Provide strategic oversight for admitted student visit experiences, including Honors College, Capstone Scholars, and other specialized weekday visit programs. Collaborate with campus partners to evaluate participation, improve visitor engagement, and enhance the overall admitted student experience.

Perform other Visitor Center-related tasks as needed, including but not limited to assisting with events and high-volume visit dates and administering assessment to student employees. Represent the university at professional workshops, meetings, and associations. Perform special projects and other duties as assigned.
