Here's how you will support our mission

The Assistant Director for Residential Life (AD) is a full-time, live-in position, responsible for day-to-day management and programming for the two residence hall communities. This includes supervising Resident Assistants, responding to after-hours crises, giving tours to prospective students/residents, and overseeing the move-in and out processes. The AD is typically the first-level responder for in-hall emergencies and provides resources and referrals for a wide range of student needs, including food insecurity, mental health, and academic support.

This position reports directly to the Director for Residential Life.

The salary range for this position is $64,409.00 - $71,197.00 annually. This is a live-in position and includes College-provided housing with rent and utilities paid as part of the total compensation package. The successful candidate must reside on campus and meet all the expectation in the Housing Agreement.

This position is open for applications until filled. First consideration will be given to applications received by July 5, 2026 at 11:59 PM PST. The College will conduct initial interviews with selected candidates via Zoom and will conduct on-campus interviews with finalists.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director for Residential Life in coordinating and administering the overall Residence Life program, including student development, operations, application processing, placement, assignment, billing, maintenance, room inspections, inventory management, move-in/move-out, and other essential processes in assigned residence hall(s);
  • Instill a sense of community, maintain operational standards, implement new services, and develop awareness of issues within the assigned residence halls, working with the Director to initiate responsive efforts;
  • Implement all policies and procedures of the Office of Student Housing, promote student rights and responsibilities, and assist with resident conduct, reporting, and behavioral concerns;
  • Initiate responses to urgent situations, emergencies, and crises on an on-call basis, taking appropriate actions within policies; participate in the on-call administrator-in-charge rotation for Student Housing;
  • Participate in Resident Assistant (RA) recruitment, selection, and hiring processes; hire, train, supervise, and evaluate RAs in partnership with the Director, providing ongoing leadership, staff development, and conducting regular staff and one-on-one meetings;
  • Work with housing staff to assess student needs and interests, anticipate and promote educational and recreational programs, and support initiatives that enrich the residential community;
  • Assist with training staff for programming, participate in workgroup training, advisory committees, college-sponsored events, and programs; facilitate and lead training or events as assigned;
  • Serve as a resource and referral for student staff and residents dealing with residence hall problems, including facilities issues, resident mediation, behavioral concerns, and personal matters;
  • Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., counseling services, campus safety, facilities, and student services) to support student wellbeing and residence hall operations;
  • Must reside on campus and will be subject to on-call hours; and,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree from an institutionally accredited College or University, or equivalent combination of education/training/experience;
  • Experience supervising students (e.g., Resident Assistants, work study, etc.) or other employees;
  • Must successfully pass a background check, including any individuals over the age of 18 residing in the assigned housing, in accordance with maximum occupancy guidelines;
  • Must be eligible to reside in on-campus housing, adhering to everything outlined in the Housing Agreement, and maintain that eligibility throughout the duration of employment;
  • Must possess, or obtain within 6 months of hire, current CPR certification.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated success in developing and implementing residence life programing, events, and activities;
  • One (1) year of professional employment in student housing or student life and activities experience;
  • Experience working in a community college housing setting;
  • Working knowledge of laws and regulations which impact Housing & Residential Life programs and students such as CAS Standards, Fair Housing Act, HEOA, FERPA, Title IX, student conduct, and due process, etc.

Terms of Employment

Columbia Basin College is unable to sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas (e.g., H-1B) at this time. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.

This is a full-time, overtime eligible professional staff position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; however, hours may vary based on operational needs and evening and weekend work may be required. The position includes built in on call responsibilities. The assigned residence hall unit has a maximum occupancy of four individuals. This position is subject to the College's drug and tobacco free campus policy, which includes all campus facilities and student housing.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach, and handle objects. The role requires sufficient mobility to frequently move materials such as files, books, and office equipment, as well as travel between campus buildings. Manual dexterity and coordination are necessary to operate a computer, calculator, and other standard office equipment. The primary workspace for this position is an office located within the residence hall.

Work Conditions

Work is performed in an office located within the residence hall, as well as in other campus settings as appropriate. The position operates in a fast paced and sometimes high demand service environment. During standard working hours, the incumbent is expected to be present and accessible in the residence hall office. The noise level is consistent with a typical office environment, including telephones, frequent interruptions and background activity associated with a residential community.

MEDICAL FLEX SPENDING ACCOUNT (FSA) & DEPENDENT CARE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (DCAP)

The FSA and DCAP plans are optional plans offered by the College and the State of Washington. They are calendar year, pre-tax, spending programs you can use to set aside money for eligible expenses. Both plans are offered as payroll deductions and are administered by Navia Benefit Solutions.

The FSA allows you to use pre-tax money to pay for certain out-of-pocket medical expenses. An FSA can be used to cover qualifying expenses such as: chiropractic care, over-the-counter medicine, first-aid supplies etc. For a full list of qualifying expenses visit: Medical FSA eligible expenses (naviabenefits.com).

For 2026, FSA annual contributions can be between $120 minimum and $3,300 maximum. As a "use it or lose it" IRC governed plan, medical expense reimbursements can be requested for employee, spouse, or IRS eligible dependents. The Dependent Care Assistance Program (DCAP) allows you to save on child or elder care expenses (e.g. babysitting, daycare, in-home care for an older dependent incapable of self-care).

Provides 60% of the first $400 pre-disability monthly earnings, reduced by any deductible income.

MOVING EXPENSE REIMBURSMENT

Employees having to move to accept a position with the College may qualify for moving expense reimbursement when certain conditions are met.

REDUCED TUITION WAIVER PROGRAM

Employees can take most credit and non-credit classes at a reduced cost when space is available and certain conditions are met.

Credit classes

Permanent classified, faculty, adjunct faculty and administrative employees of CBC may take almost any credit class on a space-available basis if requirements and prerequisites have been met. The basic cost is $5.00, plus any fees associated with that class. Hourly and probationary employees are not eligible for this reduced tuition.

Vacation & Sick Leave

Classified staff, and administrative staff accrue vacation and sick leave at rates determined by their employer group. Employees represented by a bargaining unit should refer to their negotiated agreement for accrual rates.
