The Assistant Director of the Carolyn Barber-Pierre Center for Intercultural Life (CBP-CIL) supports the Center''s mission to cultivate belonging, intercultural learning, and student success at Tulane University. Reporting to the Director of the Carolyn Barber-Pierre Center for Intercultural Life, the Assistant Director provides operational leadership for daily programming, student engagement initiatives, and cross-cultural education efforts that advance the Center's vision as a hub for intercultural exploration, community building, and experiential learning.

This position plays a central role in designing and delivering programs that enrich the student experience, strengthen retention, and prepare students to thrive in an interconnected world. The Assistant Director supervises full-time and student staff, manages the Center''s daily operations, and collaborates with campus partners to ensure CBP-CIL programs are responsive, well-assessed, and aligned with the Division of Student Affairs' strategic priorities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Personnel, Counselor Education, ethnic or cultural studies, social work, or related area
  • 1 year of experience. Note: 2 years of graduate assistant experience is equivalent to 1 year of full-time experience. OR
  • Bachelor's degree/equivalent and 4 years of directly related work experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional experience in a center for intercultural life, multicultural affairs office, or similar unit at a research university.
  • Experience supporting or partnering with Residential Learning Communities, living-learning communities, or similar integrated residential and co-curricular programs that connect intercultural education with the student living environment.
  • Experience supporting and leading religious and interfaith programs in an educational setting
  • Experience working with student organizations and developing student leaders
  • Familiarity with dialogue-based education models (e.g., Sustained Dialogue, Intergroup Dialogue) and facilitation methodologies.
  • Experience with budget management, event production, and campus communications, including social media strategy and brand compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries and navigate complex institutional environments.
  • Familiarity with culturally responsive/trauma-informed practices.
  • Conflict resolution experience
  • Demonstrated experience designing and assessing co-curricular/educational programs.
  • Supervisory experience with professional staff, graduate assistants, or student employees.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to produce professional materials for multiple audiences (students, leadership, external partners).
  • Strong organizational management, including the capacity to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with assessment tools, data analysis, and reporting platforms commonly used in higher education and student affairs.
  • Commitment to student development, intercultural learning, and the cultivation of welcoming campus environments.
  • Commitment to professional growth, reflective practice, and contributing to a supportive team culture.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and assessing co-curricular/educational programs.
