Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION: The Assistant Director, Financial Aid directs the administration of processing and disbursing financial aid awards. Ensures student and department adherence to all institutional, local, state, and federal requirements. Supervises department staff in providing excellent customer service and fulfilling responsibilities with a high level of accuracy. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Oversees the reconciliation and return of Title IV financial aid.2. Analyzes and provides counsel to students of available financial aid opportunities, eligibility requirements, and the application process. 3. Ensures efficient and effective communication of financial aid processes to internal and external partners to maintain consistency, accuracy, and student-centered customer service.4. Research and maintains current knowledge of federal and state regulations related to student loan programs, including student eligibility, satisfactory academic progress, and financial aid history.5. Supervises assigned staff, including hiring, coaching, mentoring, workflow, training, development, and performance evaluation.6. Monitors and reviews statistical reports for trends and areas of concern.7. Participates in community-related financial aid planning opportunities, in coordination with related departments.8. Resolves escalated student and parent issues/concerns.9. Collaborates in the design, implementation, and maintenance of automated financial assistance systems.10. Performs other duties as may be required or assigned. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Bachelor's degree from a regionally or nationally accredited institution in student administration, higher education, business administration, management, finance, or related field. 2. Four years of increasingly professional experience in financial aid in higher education.3. Two years of supervisory or team/project lead experience. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Experience in design and implementation of automated financial assistance systems.2. Experience in Oracle/PeopleSoft Campus Solutions modules.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. In-depth and current knowledge of Title IV federal aid regulations, proposed legislation, policies, practices, and resources that impact financial aid programs.2. Ability to become proficient in applicable financial aid Oracle/PeopleSoft modules.3. Excellent verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.4. Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to become proficient in video conferencing applications, including Teams/Zoom. 5. Ability to administer multiple financial assistance programs focused on enhancing student access and success.6. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and persuasive skills.7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other management and staff, outside governmental and community agencies, and the public.8. Ability to provide excellent customer service.9. Knowledge of the community college philosophy and system of higher education.10. Student-centered mindset and basic knowledge of college resources for students.11. Ability to foster creativity and be responsive to innovative ideas.12. Ability to manage projects and prioritize high-priority assignments.13. Ability to provide leadership and manage, develop, and train staff.14. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.15. Ability to exhibit a professional, courteous demeanor.WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: 1. Works inside in an office setting.2. Required to work evenings and weekends, as needed.3. Finalists and individuals recommended for employment at Seminole State College must reside in the State of Floridaat the time of hire and may be subject to background investigations and fingerprinting in compliance with Florida Statute 1001.64; and Seminole State College Policy 1.020; 2.020.
