Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. CCWA's primary mission is to provide quality workforce training solutions throughout the Greater Richmond region. In support of this mission, the Construction and Transportation Trades Assistant Coordinator/Instructor is responsible for co-coordinating and delivering non-credit workforce and certification training programs that prepare students in the construction trades industry, specifically related to CCWA's Construction Trades and VDOT programming. The Assistant Coordinator/Instructor will establish, maintain, and continuously improve the Construction Trades education programs related to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, heavy equipment, roadway construction, and other assigned training programs. The successful candidate must be able to effectively teach and facilitate learning in a trades laboratory, classroom, business site, work-based learning, and online instruction at Reynolds and Brightpoint Community College locations, as well as at employer and workforce partner sites throughout the Richmond region and various locations across the state of Virginia. Responsibilities include developing and updating curriculum, conducting quality assurance reviews of certification programs and curriculum, maintaining classroom and laboratory equipment, perform outreach, and serving as the subject matter expert for curriculum and program content during employer and partner meetings. The instructor will also coordinate, mentor, and evaluate adjunct instructors to ensure instructional quality and program effectiveness. Upon hire, the Construction and Transportation Trades Assistant Coordinator/Instructor will become certified to teach the Construction Trades certification and VDOT courses.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Considerable knowledge and experience of the construction trades industry. Knowledge of adult training methods, curriculum design and development, and evaluation methodology. Demonstrated ability to facilitate customized certification training programs to targeted industries. Demonstrated ability to train other instructors in classroom management and instruction. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse population of training participants, faculty, staff, and business and community partners. Demonstrated ability to conduct professional presentations to employers and workforce partners. Demonstrated ability to organize, manage, and prioritize multiple tasks and maintain accurate records. Demonstrated ability to complete projects and assignments independently with minimal supervision. Experience with apprenticeship placements and employer partnerships.

NCCER or VDOT Certifications will be required prior to teaching or proctoring exams.

A bachelor's degree is preferred.

Have 2 or more years of experience working in the construction trades industry and at least 1 year of supervisory and/or instructional experience in the construction trades or highway construction.

This is a restricted position that is dependent upon funding. The availability of funding is scheduled to end on June 30, 2029, but may be extended based on the continuation of funding. Continued employment is contingent upon funding availability.
