POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is accountable for assisting the Cook Manager with the food production and service of school meals in a high volume kitchen. Ensures Nutrition Services standards of operation are met and maintained. Assist in providing training, coaching, and supporting all Nutrition Services employees assigned to the site. Communicate proactively with District Office and Central Kitchen.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with meal preparation, cooking and service on a daily basis.
- Assist Cook Manager and perform duties of manager when absent or as assigned.
- Assist with maintaining all required records for the operation.
- Provide on the job training for employees.
- Serve food in the correct portions by adhering to the production records and standardize recipes.
- Set up food on serving lines in a timely manner.
- Responsible for production and quality control of select homemade items.
- Assist with month end inventory process.
- Perform cashier duties as needed.
- Adhere to the District's HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points) plan.
- Ensure all Federal and State government regulations are adhered to, including the reimbursable meal requirements so that the school will comply with all audits.
- Assist in monitoring performance of all employees, based on school district's guidelines.
- Establish and communicating clear expectations for employees.
- Coach, guide and mentor employees to success.
- Ensure all government sanitation standards are met.
- Support and promote the meal programs offered at the site.
- Adhere to district allergen procedure for all students who require a diet modification.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS (EDUCATION, LICENSE, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES):
Required:
- High School Degree with at least two years food preparation experience or two year Technical College Training with two years experience. Must achieve at least 80% on the Manager test.
- Food Managers Certificate from the State of Minnesota (within 6 months of employment as Assistant Manager for internal candidates).
- Complete Building Blocks for Great Trays within 6 months of employment as Assistant Manager.
- Complete ServSafe allergen training within six months of employment.
- Knowledge of food production, employee supervision, keyboarding skills, math skills and creating and participating in a team environment.
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to perform routine computer functions, including email, Internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and relevant food service software applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Prompt, regular and reliable attendance.
- Ability to pass Nutrition Services Fitness for Duty tests.
- Ability to provide quality customer service to students, parents, co-workers, supervisors, and the community in a positive and responsive way that is consistently welcoming and enhances effective work relationships.
