Assistant Controller (Temporary)

Southfield, MI | Hybrid | 8+ Month Contract | $42.00 - $49.00 per Hour

LHH Recruitment Solutions is supporting a client in Southfield, Michigan that is seeking a Temporary Assistant Controller to join their team for an 8+ month contract assignment. This hybrid opportunity offers competitive compensation and the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the accounting and finance functions of a dynamic organization.

The ideal candidate will have strong accounting leadership experience, a thorough understanding of financial reporting, and the ability to support month-end close, financial analysis, and process improvement initiatives while partnering with key stakeholders across the business.

Responsibilities

• Assist in overseeing day-to-day accounting operations and financial reporting activities

• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes

• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger activity

• Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial statements and management reports

• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis activities

• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies

• Assist with audit preparation and coordinate requests from internal and external auditors

• Analyze financial data and provide recommendations to improve operational efficiency

• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance accounting accuracy and effectiveness

• Partner with leadership and cross-functional departments to support business objectives

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

• 5+ years of progressive accounting experience

• Prior experience in an Assistant Controller, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar leadership role

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements

• Experience with general ledger accounting, account reconciliations, and month-end close

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills

• Experience with ERP/accounting systems

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation preferred

• Experience supporting audits and financial statement preparation

• Experience managing or mentoring accounting staff

• Background in process improvement and internal controls
