Assistant Controller – Private Equity Fund Accounting | Boston, MA | $140K-$160K Base
A leading Boston-based private equity investment firm is seeking an Assistant Controller to join its finance team. This is an opportunity for an experienced fund accounting professional to take on a highly visible role overseeing an outsourced fund administration relationship while partnering directly with senior finance and investment professionals.
What You’ll Do:
• Oversee outsourced fund accounting and administration activities, including quarterly closes, financial statements, capital calls, distributions, and investor reporting
• Review and oversee the work of the third-party fund administrator
• Support VP-level finance professionals and Controllers across their respective funds
• Work closely with private equity, co-investment, and GP teams
• Oversee partnership accounting, including capital accounts, investment activity, and fund-level transactions
• Partner with external auditors and tax advisors on annual audit and tax processes
• Support investment transactions, treasury activities, and fund restructurings
• Ensure compliance with partnership agreements, GAAP, and internal accounting policies
• Identify opportunities to improve processes through automation, data analytics, AI, and technology
• Collaborate with finance, tax, legal, and investment professionals across the organization
What We’re Looking For:
• 6–10 years of experience in private equity, venture capital, private credit, fund accounting, or partnership accounting
• Strong understanding of partnership accounting and GAAP
• Experience with private investment funds and/or alternative investments
• Experience overseeing or working with a third-party fund administrator
• Strong understanding of capital accounts, fund financial statements, capital calls, distributions, and investment accounting
• Experience working with auditors and tax professionals
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; CPA strongly preferred
• Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling capabilities
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
