    Responsibilities:

    • The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in overseeing the accounting operations of the division.
    • This role plays a key part in financial reporting, cost accounting, budgeting, and ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.

     

    What you will do:

    • Support oversight of the accounting function, including accounts payable, subcontractor payables, payroll, receivables, job cost accounting, and general ledger activities.
    • Ensure financial reporting and accounting practices comply with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
    • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for internal and corporate leadership.
    • Support development of annual operating budgets, housing budgets, capital budgets, land development budgets, and cash flow projections.
    • Partner with leadership to analyze budget vs. actual performance and assist with financial forecasting and profitability analysis.
    • Assist in the preparation and review of tax filings, including personal property, sales and use, and real estate tax returns.
    • Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation, responding to requests, and assisting with audit processes.
    • Help design and maintain accounting procedures that strengthen financial controls and reporting processes.
    • Collaborate with department leaders to ensure consistent cost coding and general ledger accounting practices.

     

    What you will need:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
    • CPA (or actively pursuing) preferred/not required.
    • 3 - 10 years of experience preferred, ideally in public accounting (audit or assurance) or a corporate accounting environment.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting controls.
    • Experience with financial analysis, budgeting, and variance analysis.
    • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
