My established client within the services industry, is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Assistant Controller. Responsibilities:
  • Oversee day-to-day accounting tasks
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the team regarding daily issues and challenges.
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Contribute to managing manual processes while the company works towards automation.
  • Provide support and guidance to all accounting department staff, including backup and vacation coverage.
  • Oversee payroll requirements, statutory reporting, and related filings.
  • Ensure corporate taxes, HST and other government filings are completed accurately and within required deadlines.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations between sub-ledgers and general ledger.
  • Coordinate and communicate with external auditors, banking partners, and other third parties.
  • Monitor daily banking activities and perform bank reconciliations.
  • Manage the maintenance of and the reporting on fixed assets.
  • Serve as primary liaison between external IT service provider and company employees, as well as assist IT service provider as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support with ad-hoc projects as needed.

Qualifications:
  • CPA designation is a must-have (open to someone who has written the CFE and is close to obtaining letters)
  • 3+ years experience as a Senior Accountant or Manager
  • The ideal profile is someone from public accounting (senior or assistant manager level), looking to transition into industry
  • Positive, can-do attitude
  • Proficiency in Excel, including lookups and pivot tables
