HHM Talent is assisting a client in their search for an Assistant Controller – Cession Statement Preparer in Wilmington, NC.Position OverviewThis financial role is an integral part of the company with daily interaction with all areas of the business, including close interaction with the Controller and the VP Sales & Operations. Experience in F&I automotive, reinsurance and insurance industries is beneficial. The Assistant Controller must have strong attention to detail while retaining an overall view of the company goals and performance. Key ResponsibilitiesAssist the Controller with application of accounting principles, practices, and procedures for the maintenance of fiscal records and preparation of financial reports.Assist the Controller, as assigned, in oversight of daily operations of members in the accounting department that handle, Accounts Payable, Cancellations, Accounts Receivable, data analysis, journal entries, establishing accruals, payroll in multiple states, payroll tax filings, 1099 reporting annually, banking, and performing analytical analysis over all account balances and statement.Specific involvement with Reinsurance Accounting and the Cession statements that are critical to Dealership cession statements. This includes an ability to understand financial investment matters, return on investment, and tax upon investment both for income tax and capital gains tax. This portion is a critical part of the job. Assist the Controller with oversight of the System Administrator of the company to ensure products, pricing, commission and underwriting reserve requirements are correct.Provide mentoring and management to other investment accountants that become a part of the company. Support Sales Team with pricing analysis, new product pricing, new business analysis and production reports.Assist the Controller with monthly and annual reporting to external parties and insurers.Assist outside accounting firm with information related to its audits and tax filings of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with applicable GAAP accounting standards and local, state, and federal statutes.Optimize accounting software. Must have experience with QuickBooks Online. Likely migration to other accounting software will likely occur.Assist with new employee onboarding, required HR documentation, group healthcare administration, monitor company healthcare insurance, payroll and PTO as directed by the Controller.Review high value claims and Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) claims for appropriate due diligence before approval. Review ALL (GAP) claims.Work with the compliance team to ensure state, local and underwriting filings are current and ensure cancellation requirements for all contracts are followed.Work with external CPA firm to ensure information is provided for corporate tax filings in multiple states. Work with external reinsurance management team to ensure entities tax filings are completed timely.QualificationsMinimum 5 – 7 years of accounting management experience, preferably in the automotive F&I provider industry.Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business or related field. Master's degree preferred.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Certification, desired.Working knowledge of national and local tax regulations and compliance reporting.Process improvement mindset leveraging information systems and advanced MS Excel skills.Ability to teach financial concepts and practices to non-financial oriented individuals and impact financial results.Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.Knowledge of economic and accounting GAAP principles and practices, tax rules, banking, reinsurance and the analysis and reporting of financial data.Ability to perform duties with a high degree of independent judgment, discretion, integrity and confidentiality.CompensationCompetitive base salary commensurate with experience level.BenefitsDental insuranceHealth insurancePaid sick timePaid time offVision insurance
