    Assistant Community Manager

    OVERVIEW
    A senior housing community (62+) in Kansas City, operating under project-based Section 8, is looking for an Assistant Community Manager. This is a compliance-heavy role at a smaller, close-knit property — a strong fit for someone who already knows HUD paperwork inside and out and enjoys working with an older resident population.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Support the Community Manager in running day-to-day operations for a project-based Section 8 senior community
    • Process move-ins and annual/interim recertifications in line with HUD requirements
    • Maintain resident files and ensure full compliance with Section 8 and fair housing regulations
    • Handle leasing activities including applications, waitlist management, and unit turns
    • Build relationships with residents, many of whom have been in the community for years
    • Coordinate with maintenance on service requests and unit readiness
    • Assist with budgeting, reporting, and rent collection
    • Help prepare for and support HUD/management-agent inspections and audits
    • Step in for the Community Manager when needed

    WHAT IT TAKES

    • 2-3+ years of property management experience, with hands-on Project-Based Section 8 experience required — this one's non-negotiable
    • Working knowledge of HUD recertification processes and income/asset calculations
    • COS (Certified Occupancy Specialist) or similar affordable housing certification a plus
    • Comfortable with property management software (Yardi, OneSite, or similar)
    • Patient, service-minded approach — this role serves a senior population
    • Strong attention to detail on paperwork and compliance
    • Good written and verbal communication skills
    • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
