Duties Description The New York State Education Department's Office of Education Policy (OEP) is seeking candidates for the position of Assistant Commissioner for the Office of Access, Equity and Community Engagement Services.
The incumbent serves as the Department's principal advisor and statewide leader on initiatives related to educational equity, diversity, and student success, providing strategic direction for programs and policies that advance opportunity and achievement for all students across New York State with an emphasis on boys and young men of color.
Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for P-12 Instructional Support, the incumbent will provide strategic statewide leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of policies, programs, and initiatives that promote educational excellence, equity, and improved outcomes for all students, with a particular emphasis on advancing opportunities and success for boys and young men of color, as well as girls and young women of color. The incumbent will collaborate with Department leadership, school districts, institutions of higher education, community-based organizations, policymakers, and other stakeholders to advance the Board of Regents' priorities and support equitable educational outcomes across New York State.
Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
Minimum Qualifications Candidates must have a masters degree or higher and relevant senior level leadership and management experience, including a record of proven results and responsibility in educational equity, diversity, and student success.
Additional Comments This position is in the exempt jurisdictional class, and the incumbent will serve at the discretion of the Commissioner of Education. Promotions and transfers may change appointee's negotiating unit. Applicants should be aware that changes in negotiating units may affect their salary, insurance, and other benefits. This position allows for the opportunity to telecommute up to 30% each bi-weekly pay period and is granted at the discretion of the supervisor and the appointing office.
Filling of this position is contingent on Division of the Budget approval.
