General Scope of Duties

Connecticut College Athletics seeks an Assistant Coach Strength & Conditioning/Coordinator of Fitness Center to provide the student-athlete with the tools to develop and

optimize their athletic capabilities. Reporting to the Director of Athletics. This position works to

further Connecticut College's Athletics & Strategic Plan for Competitive Success and ensure that

student-athletes are provided a top-notch strength & conditioning program throughout the

academic year. Provide a first-class student-athlete experience, serve as a source of pride for

the college and community, and cultivate graduates who excel as leaders on and off the field.

General Duties and Responsibilities

Work collaboratively with members of the Sport Performance Team to support athletes

through a preventative and holistic model of athletic performance

Design and implement a sport-specific training program for teams as determined by the

Sports Performance Team and Coaching Staff that fully utilizes training times from

flexible weekday schedule. To ensure we are maximizing the training opportunities for all

28 varsity teams to which you would be responsible for half the teams. The schedule

should be coordinated with the members of the Strength & Conditioning Team to ensure

coverage during those hours

Submit an annual report to the Director of Athletics summarizing the following two areas:

Strength & conditioning report for your varsity teams detailing programs, in-

person workout contact hours, results, and recommendations for improvement.

How you contributed to the goal of competitive success

Know of and abide by rules, policies, and procedures of the department, College, and all

organizations of which the College and teams are members (NCAA, NESCAC, etc)

Design training programs with an emphasis on programming on injury prevention and

performance enhancement of student-athletes.

Write and implement year-round efficient periodized strength training programs for

student-athletes from specific teams

Work collaboratively with coaches from specific teams to design programs that

determine team and individual strength, fitness, and conditioning needs. • Monitor

athletes during workouts to maintain safe, positive, and effective sessions • Work with

coaches from specific teams to write and implement efficient dynamic team warm-up

programs

Assists with the general operation and maintenance of the varsity athletics & weight

room and fitness center, along with enforcing safety procedures

Supervises the fitness center during summer operating hours Monday - Friday

Maintains verifiable records and written documentation regarding all team and

individual workouts

Research and remain current on developments in the strength and conditioning

field.

Have a willingness to learn and improve as a strength-and-conditioning professional.

Assist with oversight of college fitness center and staff

Conduct oneself with the highest ethical and moral standards in regard to behavior on

campus and in relationships with student-athletes and members of the College

community

Education and Skills

Requirements:

Required Degree: Bachelor's Degree

Required Training/Certifications:

CSCS certification from National Strength and Conditioning Association

(NSCA)

First Aid, CPR and AED certification

Preferred Field of Expertise: Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, or

Strength & Conditioning

USA Level 1 weight lifting preferred

2 or more years of experience in a collegiate setting is preferred

Must be available to work a flexible schedule involving early mornings, evenings

during the week day. Available for a few weekends a year to support NCAA teams.

Valid driver's license

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of strength and conditioning programming with skills beyond minimal levelof qualification

Ability to teach, lead, and counsel collegiate student-athletes

Possess strong communication skills and be willing to take initiative

Strong customer service orientation; positive, helpful, and resourceful

Highly reliable, flexible, and adaptable

Proven leadership, teaching and organizational skills.

Knowledge of NESCAC & NCAA Division III rules

Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multi-tasking environment, with a strong sense of principles and ethics in regard to the welfare of student athletes

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a staff member at Connecticut College

Strong motivational skills and team player who will contribute the athletic department management team
