Job Summary:

Furman University is seeking a dynamic and passionate coach to lead the sprints, hurdles, relays, and horizontal jumps events within our Track & Field program. This position oversees event-specific training and development, while working collaboratively with the broader coaching staff to elevate the programs competitive excellence, team culture, and alignment with institutional values.

Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement training programs for sprints, hurdles, relays, and horizontal jumps.
  • Recruit academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes who can thrive at a top liberal arts institution.
  • Communicate scholarship opportunities, primarily academic merit aid, to prospective student-athletes and families.
  • Support roster growth and program sustainability through innovative recruiting strategies.
  • Collaborate with the coaching staff on meet selection, travel and athlete development planning.
  • Foster a team culture that emphasizes academic success, competitive growth, and personal character.
  • Serve as a positive ambassador for Furman University Athletics, seeking opportunities to engage alumni, donors, faculty, staff, administrators, and fans.
  • Align program goals with university priorities around leadership, integrity, and student development.
  • Prepare student-athletes and event groups for competitive success at the Southern Conference level and beyond.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree required.
  • Collegiate coaching or competitive experience in sprints, hurdles, and/or horizontal jumps.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting academically strong student-athletes.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to working collaboratively in a values-driven team environment.
