Assistant Civil Designer
Location: Kansas City, MO
Employment Type: Contract-to-Hire
We are seeking an Assistant Civil Designer for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Kansas City, MO. This position will support a variety of civil engineering projects, assisting with design, drafting, calculations, site evaluations, and construction documentation as part of a multidisciplinary project team.
Responsibilities:
Assist with the design of civil projects including storm drainage systems, stormwater management facilities, water and sanitary sewer utilities, site development, land development, roads, sediment and erosion control, traffic control, airports, and facility-related projects.
Prepare and modify civil drawings, layouts, details, and construction documents.
Perform design layouts and calculations for assignments of varying complexity.
Develop initial designs, sketches, and markups for ongoing projects.
Review and analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, topographical data, and geologic information to support project design.
Interpret and apply applicable design codes, standards, and project specifications.
Assist with volume calculations for excavation, dredging, and site grading.
Incorporate project schedules, budgets, and design criteria into civil layouts and deliverables.
Review drawings for accuracy and completion within established scope, budget, and schedule requirements.
Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other disciplines to resolve design and drawing issues.
Organize and maintain project drawings, revisions, plot files, and related project documentation.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Drafting Technology or a related field with at least 2 years of related experience; or
Associate degree with at least 3 years of related experience; or
At least 4 years of progressive civil detailing and design experience.
Basic proficiency with civil design software including AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, and Microsoft Excel.
Basic understanding of civil design principles, calculations, and design systems.
Knowledge of civil design practices and the ability to understand how other engineering disciplines relate to civil design.
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary project team environment.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
