A well-established manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Business Controller to join its finance team in Kingsport, Tennessee. This is a highly visible opportunity for an accounting professional who enjoys partnering closely with operations, influencing business decisions, and helping drive financial performance within a large, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Reporting to the Business Controller, the Assistant Business Controller will provide financial leadership and operational support across the facility. The successful candidate will bring a strong background in manufacturing accounting, cost analysis, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Do
- Prepare and review accurate, timely financial, operational, and management reporting.
- Partner with plant and operational leadership to provide financial insight, improve decision-making, and support cost-effective business strategies.
- Analyze operating results, cost drivers, and capital projects to improve profitability, performance, and return on investment.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives focused on cost reduction, process efficiency, profitability, and operational excellence.
- Coordinate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, including required financial reporting and analysis.
- Assist with the site’s annual budgeting and forecasting process.
- Ensure financial results accurately reflect operational activity and business performance.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal-control requirements, company policies, audit standards, and applicable regulations.
- Help lead, coach, and develop accounting staff through task delegation, performance management, succession planning, and recruiting support.
- Participate in company-wide finance and operational initiatives that improve reporting quality, processes, and overall effectiveness.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related discipline.
- Five or more years of progressive accounting experience within a manufacturing environment, including supervisory or management experience.
- Strong experience with cost accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, month-end close, and financial analysis.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with ERP systems; SAP experience is strongly preferred.
- CPA is preferred; CMA and/or MBA credentials are also valued.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively partner with both finance and operations teams.
- Analytical, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven setting.
- A hands-on, accountable, results-driven leadership style and a genuine interest in developing others.
