The coach will assist with practice planning, skill development, supervision, and game-day responsibilities in accordance with county and WVSSAC guidelines.Duties and ResponsibilitiesAssist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting practice sessions.Teach and develop fundamental and advanced basketball skills for student-athletes.Supervise athletes during practices, games, travel, and other team activities.Support implementation of game strategies, scouting reports, and film review.Promote positive sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and character development.Monitor the academic progress, attendance, and eligibility of student-athletes.Maintain a safe practice and game environment, including proper equipment use.Communicate effectively with players, parents, administration, and staff.Assist with maintaining equipment, uniforms, and inventory.Uphold WVSSAC rules, board policies, and school athletic procedures.Model professional conduct and serve as a role model for student-athletes.Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach, Athletic Director, or Principal.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.Prior basketball playing or coaching experience preferred.Must meet all WVSSAC and county requirements for coaching certification, background checks, and training (including CPR/First Aid, sports safety, and WVSSAC coaching course).Ability to build positive relationships with students and staff.Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Work EnvironmentPractices, games, and travel may occur outside regular school hours, including evenings and weekends.Requires physical activity, ability to demonstrate skills, and supervision of students.
