Pay Grade: E15 Minimum Salary: * $50,138 Mid-Point Salary: $61,315
- Salary is determined on directly related experience supported by a service record or experience affidavit. For

be pro-rated based on actual start date.

Job Scope
Uses some independent judgement and familiarity of the field to perform work. May provide input into the
development of policies and procedures. May be responsible for administration of moderate complexity
departmental programs.
Position Summary
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for facilitating the instruction, guidance, and training of as many
students as possible in the field of sports medicine. Also provides quality emergency care, treatment, and
rehabilitation for injured athletes to minimize and prevent injuries.
Essential Functions / Key Responsibilities
- Serves as a resource to coaches on conditioning programs using solid knowledge of off -season programs,
diets, etc.
- Supports the establishment of a program for the yearly physical examination of all prospective athletes
under moderate supervision.
- Administers program to provide for emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured athletes
under the direction and moderate supervision of the team physicians.
- Establishes specific procedures to be carried out by a coach and/or student trainer in the event of an
emergency when care of an athlete is needed.
- Applies devices such as strapping, bandaging, and braces designed to prevent or protect against injury.
- Uses latitude for independent judgement in the decision-making process when an athlete may return to
practice or resume playing activity following an athletic injury.
- Initiate and process athletic claims and medical statements for payment.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the appropriate skill and experience capabilities
expected for this position.

Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or 4 years equivalent experience.
- Valid Licensure in Texas as an Athletic Trainer or Certified Athletic Trainer (NATA BOC)
- Certified Basic Life Support
- Candidate must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee
(approximately $50.00) paid by the employee.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- 2+ years progressive experience in athletic training or related field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrated leadership skills.
- Proven ability to coordinate campus athletic trainer program.
- Knowledge of athlete emergency care, treatment, and rehabilitation programs .
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills .
- Ability to problem solve, think critically, and manage conflict.
Working Conditions
Work Environment:
- Computer, computer software programs and peripherals, teacher resource materials and
equipment, copier, fax, and other equipment applicable to position.
- Frequent exposure to temperature extremes (hot and cold), humidity extremes, noise. Occasional
exposure to biological hazards (communicable diseases, bacteria, insects, mold, fungi, etc .
Physical Demands/Requirements:
- Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions/deadlines and prolonged or
irregular hours; Frequent walking, standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing; Occasional: Lifting
and carrying 10-25 pounds frequently, 25-40 pounds occasionally, more than 45 pounds infrequently with
assistance; Pushing/pulling 10-35 pounds sporadically; May be required under specific circumstances to
provide physical restraint of students in danger of causing harm to themselves or others; Frequent
districtwide and occasional statewide travel.

- Supervise and evaluate performance of student athletic trainers.
