ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN MARRIAGE AND FAMILY THERAPY

POSITION AVAILABILITY: The Department of Human Development and Family Science (HDFS) in the College of Human Sciences at Auburn University invites applications for a nine-month, tenure-track position at the assistant/associate level in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT), a fully COAMFTE accredited, terminal Master’s degree program. The position will begin August 2027.

 

THE DEPARTMENT: The Department includes 32 faculty members (20 full-time, tenure-track and 12 non-tenure track focused on teaching, research or outreach work), 285 undergraduates, and 55 graduate students and offers undergraduate, masters, and doctoral degrees. It administers the Auburn University Marriage and Family Therapy Center which houses the masters-level Marriage and Family Therapy program; the Auburn University Early Learning Center; the Harris Early Learning Center in Birmingham, AL; and the Family Child Care Partnerships program. HDFS also administers undergraduate and graduate certificate programs in Health Equity Science as well as an Advanced Methods Certificate. The MFT program is fully integrated within the broader HDFS department, and faculty contribute to the department's teaching, research, and service missions while bringing expertise in systemic clinical practice and training. The MFT program is a full-time cohort model that accepts 6 students each year.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will contribute to the department through excellence in research, teaching, clinical supervision, and service. Responsibilities include maintaining a productive, externally visible program of research; pursuing extramural funding opportunities; teaching undergraduate and graduate courses within the HDFS curriculum; providing supervision and training within the MFT program; mentoring graduate students and chairing thesis and dissertation committees; and participating in service activities that support the university, profession, and community. The department seeks candidates with a well-defined program of research and welcomes candidates with research expertise in any area of HDFS or MFT scholarship.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in MFT or HDFS (if the latter, the applicant must have an MS in MFT) at the time employment is scheduled to begin; AAMFT approved supervisor status or supervisor candidate status; and MFT licensure in Alabama or eligibility to obtain within 90 days of date of hire. Experience or readiness to teach core MFT courses, supervising clinical graduate students, and conducting research to advance the fields of HDFS and/or MFT is necessary. The candidate must be fluent in English, must possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment. Candidates for appointment at the Associate Professor rank must demonstrate an established record of scholarly productivity and external funding.
