The Wilmington University Farnan School of Law invites applications for multiple full-time faculty positions. These are tenure-track or tenured appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Full Professor of Law.

About the Wilmington University Farnan School of Law

The Wilmington University Farnan School of Law is a student-centered law school committed to providing affordable, accessible, and practice-focused legal education. Founded in 2022 and provisionally accredited by the American Bar Association, the law school has experienced significant enrollment growth and is expanding its full-time faculty to support its continued success.

We seek faculty who are passionate about teaching, mentoring, scholarship, and service, and who are excited by the opportunity to help build our growing law school. Faculty members are expected to provide outstanding classroom instruction, actively mentor students, contribute to the law school, the University, and the broader community through service, and maintain an active program of scholarship.

Consistent with our mission, full-time faculty typically teach five courses each academic year. Our curriculum emphasizes excellence in developing practice-ready attorneys through innovative, engaging, and student-centered instruction. Formative assessments are used to support student learning and development, alongside experiential learning opportunities that bridge legal theory and practice.

We welcome applications from candidates with a variety of professional and academic backgrounds whose experience will contribute to our educational mission. Applicants must possess a J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and student mentoring. Strong candidates will have prior teaching experience, significant legal practice experience, or a combination of both. We are particularly interested in candidates who can teach multiple required doctrinal courses within the J.D. curriculum and/or legal writing.

The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

• J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
• Admitted to the bar of any state.
• Sufficient and high-quality practice experience to be a foundation for teaching in the Farnan School of Law's educational program.
• Commitment to the mission, curricular philosophy, and instructional methods of the Farnan School of Law.
• Demonstrated commitment to the mission and values of Wilmington University.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Knowledge of instructional strategies designed to support student learning and achievement.
• Successful candidates must complete the online Wilmington University Teaching and Learning Training (Expectations and LMS) via the New Faculty Orientation-Part 1 and 2 after being hired.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

• Teach up to five courses per academic year while providing high-quality, student-centered instruction.
• Demonstrate the ability to achieve excellence in teaching and mentoring students in their professional development.
• Follow the instructional and curricular practices of the Farnan School of Law, including use of the Canvas Learning Management System, tracking student learning outcomes, utilizing multiple assessments and research and writing modules within a course, as appropriate, with support from other faculty as well as research librarians.
• Foster an inclusive environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
• Perform other duties which may be assigned by the Dean of the Farnan School of Law.

Completed writing prompt (Teaching Philosophy): Provide a description of your teaching philosophy. Your description should be no more than 1.5 pages in length and should include the following information: (1) A brief statement (5-7 sentences) explaining how you plan to provide excellence in teaching, a relevant curriculum, and individual attention to students, which is the cornerstone of Wilmington University's mission statement. (2) Based on your statement above, please briefly answer the following questions: (a) Explain your beliefs, theories, and/or methods regarding teaching and how they shape your concept of successful teaching. (b) How do you know when you are teaching effectively? (c) How do you develop and maintain positive relationships with students? (d) How do you create a supportive learning environment? (3) Include a summary of your thoughts on education and the role that you feel you could play in helping students to be successful in their discipline, career, and life. (This statement should be attached via the attachments area of the application; enter attached in the question''s field)

Compensation and Benefits

Salary is commensurate with experience and appointment length. Hours of Employment: Classes are scheduled Monday - Thursday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. - 9:35 p.m. All faculty should anticipate teaching both in the day and evening programs, as needed for the course load. Must maintain a flexible work schedule to meet the needs of the university and the Farnan School of Law. Occasional weekends as needed for special events. Required to attend all Graduation ceremonies, new student orientation, faculty and sub-committee meetings, and Professional Development Day events.
