We are seeking an Assistant Applications Specialist for a contract-to-hire opportunity with our client in Kansas City, MO. This position will support the development and implementation of software applications, AI-enabled tools, automation solutions, reports, and dashboards used across the organization.
The Assistant Applications Specialist will work closely with internal business teams and software developers to understand data and process challenges and translate them into practical technology solutions. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with SQL, Python, AI development tools, and modern application development workflows.
Partner with internal business teams to understand data, reporting, automation, and application needs and translate requirements into effective technical solutions.
Develop and support applications, reports, dashboards, and automation solutions for internal and external users.
Utilize AI development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, and similar platforms to build automations, prototypes, and AI agents that address business needs.
Write and optimize SQL queries for data analysis, reporting, and basic data modeling.
Use Python scripting to support data analysis, process automation, and application functionality.
Assist with the development of solutions using Microsoft Power Apps, Power BI, and related reporting and automation platforms.
Configure application workflows, security settings, and automated processes.
Collaborate with software developers to scale, improve, and operationalize applications developed from rapid prototypes.
Utilize GitHub and VS Code as part of standard development, version control, and collaboration workflows.
Support applications and solutions across cloud environments including Azure, AWS, and GCP.
Assist with evaluating and implementing new software and technologies that improve project delivery, business processes, data management, and system integration.
Serve as a technical resource to internal teams looking to apply AI, data, and automation tools to everyday business challenges.
Research and compile project-related data and assist project teams in producing required technical deliverables.
Follow established quality, security, and compliance standards and escalate potential risks as appropriate.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited program.
1–5 years of relevant experience in data analysis, automation, application development, or a similar hands-on technical role.
Strong working knowledge of SQL and basic data modeling concepts.
Working proficiency with Python for scripting, automation, and data analysis.
Experience using AI coding or agent tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or similar technologies preferred.
Understanding of prompt engineering and the ability to effectively use AI tools to develop technical solutions.
Experience with Microsoft Power Apps and Power BI preferred.
Familiarity with GitHub and VS Code.
Exposure to Azure, AWS, and/or GCP cloud environments.
Basic understanding of software development practices and software/hardware system architecture.
Strong analytical, quantitative problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong attention to detail with demonstrated collaboration, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
Prior internship, consulting, or related technical experience preferred.
Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
