Job title: Assembly Tech
Location: Wilmington, Massachusetts
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Schedule: 6:15 AM - 2:45 PM Monday - Friday
Contract Duration: 6 months with the possibility for extension
Pay Rate: $37-39 per hour on a W2
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electromechanical Build Technician to support rapid prototyping and low-rate production of products under development. This is a hands-on position focused on mechanical and electrical assembly, robotic system integration, testing, and quality inspection.
The ideal candidate has experience building complex electromechanical products and is comfortable working in a fast-paced development environment where designs and build requirements may evolve quickly.
Key Responsibilities
Electromechanical Assembly
- Perform mechanical and electrical assembly of subassemblies and complete systems.
- Integrate subassemblies into fully functional electromechanical and robotic systems.
- Interpret engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, wiring schematics, and assembly work instructions.
- Support prototype, development, and low-rate production builds while maintaining quality and throughput targets.
- Track build progress and identify parts shortages, design issues, or assembly concerns.
- Use common assembly tools including torque wrenches, crimpers, soldering irons, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools.
Testing & Quality
- Prepare assemblies for end-of-line (EoL) functional testing, system-level testing, and safety validation.
- Perform in-process quality inspections, including verification of fit, alignment, torque specifications, electrical continuity, and connector seating.
- Conduct dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, height gauges, go/no-go gauges, and torque wrenches.
- Document build deviations, non-conformances, and quality issues according to established procedures.
- Support firmware and software integration by verifying hardware readiness and cable/connector integrity.
Engineering & Production Support
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and systems engineers throughout the build process.
- Provide Design for Assembly (DFA) feedback to improve build efficiency, reliability, and cycle time.
- Coordinate with production planners and material handlers to support parts kitting and staging.
- Help develop and improve assembly instructions, process documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain organized workstations and build areas using 5S principles.
- Support multiple build programs as products progress through development.
- Participate in build-readiness and after-action reviews.
Basic Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical and/or electrical assembly experience, preferably with prototype or low-volume hardware.
- Experience with precision mechanical and electrical assembly.
- Familiarity with torque wrenches, crimpers, soldering equipment, hand tools, power tools, and pneumatic tools.
- Ability to work in an engineering/production environment with quality and build-rate targets.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in electromechanical technology, mechatronics, robotics, or a related field.
- Experience reading mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, GD&T, and 3D CAD models.
- 5+ years of experience in robotics, aerospace, automotive, consumer electronics, or similar prototyping/pre-production environments.
- Experience assembling motors, gearboxes, encoders, brakes, actuators, and drive components.
- Experience with multi-axis robotic systems or other complex electromechanical products.
- Familiarity with metrology equipment; CMM or 3D scanning experience is a plus.
- Experience in low-rate initial production (LRIP) or production ramp-up environments.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams in fast-paced product development environments.
