Asphalt Quality Control Technician III

We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Quality Control Technician III to support asphalt production and paving operations throughout the Denver metro area. This position plays a critical role in ensuring asphalt and aggregate materials meet project specifications, regulatory requirements, and industry quality standards.

The ideal candidate will have extensive asphalt quality control experience, strong knowledge of asphalt testing procedures, relevant CDOT certifications, and the ability to work independently in both laboratory and field environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform quality control testing on hot mix asphalt, aggregates, and field density.
• Conduct field inspections, sampling, and observations to verify compliance with project specifications and quality standards.
• Accurately perform testing procedures, calculations, and documentation in accordance with established protocols.
• Communicate test results and quality concerns to management, plant personnel, and paving crews.
• Conduct nuclear density gauge testing and work closely with paving crews to achieve required compaction standards.
• Complete asphalt coring and patching activities as needed.
• Calibrate, maintain, and verify laboratory testing equipment.
• Participate in laboratory accreditation events and proficiency testing programs.
• Maintain detailed daily records of testing results, observations, and quality control activities.
• Provide mentorship, guidance, and training support to junior technicians.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, and housekeeping requirements.

• Minimum 5 years of asphalt quality control experience.
• Current CDOT QC/QA Certifications (CAPA Levels A, B, and C) preferred.
  • Candidates with CAPA Levels A and B will also be considered.
• Strong understanding of AASHTO, ASTM, and CDOT specifications and testing procedures.
• Ability to work independently in both laboratory and field settings.
• Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
• Frequently bend, stoop, sweep, and shovel materials.
• Regularly lift and carry up to 50-60 pounds.
• Occasionally lift up to 100 pounds.
• Push and pull testing equipment and materials as required.

• Monday-Friday schedule, with some night and weekend work based on paving operations.
• Work schedule aligns with asphalt production and paving demands.
• Typical peak-season workload ranges from 60-70 hours per week.
• Work performed within approximately a 60-mile radius of the shop.
• Guaranteed 40 hours per week during the winter season.

Salary: $72,800 annually

This is a Permanent position based out of Commerce City, CO.

The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $72800.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
