WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

The Asian American Health Initiative (AAHI) Program Manager I will guide and coach junior staff members and oversee the activities of the behavioral health program, health education program, and outreach & health promotion program. These programs engage the community through workshops, health fairs, community celebrations, and more. It also involves visiting community nonprofits to build partnerships and trust. This employee is also responsible for program development, program data management, monitoring contracts, and relationship management. A candidate fluent in one of the Asian languages is preferred, as the behavioral health and health education programs produce educational content in multiple Asian languages.

What Youll Be Doing

  • Involved in strategic planning and overall development and evaluation of AAHI.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research to evaluate factors that promote and protect health and social wellness.
  • Facilitates or leads projects relating to the development of AAHI's health and social programs.
  • Integrates theoretical frameworks with local data to design programs.
  • Designs and implements evaluation plans to monitor and assess the needs of AAHI's programs.
  • Develops and manages program planning and evaluation tools.
  • Monitors, analyzes, and interprets data for planning and reporting purposes.
  • Advocates for data improvements at various levels.
  • Coaching and assistance to junior staff members to complete program tasks
  • Serve as a link between staff and Program Manager II
  • Guide junior staff members by developing project scope, project deliverables, assigning work, furnishing regular advice and instructions, and overseeing workload and quality of work.
  • Reviewing multilingual educational content produced by the AAHI programs for cultural and linguistic proficiency.
  • Oversee AAHI outreach activities at community events and organizations and serve as back-up in case designated staff cannot attend events.
  • Visit community and faith-based organizations to develop partnerships with community leaders. To do this successfully, the person will need to be able to drive.
  • Deliver presentations on health-related topics as needed to support Behavioral Health and Health Education programs.
  • Liaises with Healthy Montgomery Initiative and other workgroups as assigned.
  • Participates in department-wide initiatives and projects as assigned.
  • Monitors social media communication.
  • Leads discussions around data gaps for Asian Americans.
  • Leads AAHI staff and DHHS colleagues in planning and program development.
  • Assist with grant seeking and proposal writing.
  • Develop contract scopes for vendors
  • Acts as primary contact person for vendors.
  • Monitors contracts by conducting requisite site visits, and meetings with vendors to ensure quality service delivery, compliance, and meeting of performance goals.
  • Processes payment and track expenditure of contractual services.

The selected candidate will be required to work evenings and weekend when needed. This position requires a driver's license as the selected candidate will travel throughout the County to perform job duties.

Minimum Qualifications

This Position is ONLY Open to current Montgomery County Government Employees.

Experience: Considerable (3 years) of professional experience in developing, designing, implementing, and evaluation of community health programs for the Asian American or Pacific Islander community.

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelors Degree.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

Driver's License: Possession and maintenance at all times of a valid driver's license from the applicants state of residence.

Preferred Criteria, Interview Preferences

The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas:

  • Experience conducting program data analysis and reporting for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in managing and mentoring teams of junior level professionals and staff.

  • Advanced level proficiency in at least one Asian language such as Vietnamese, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog, Hindi, Urdu, Sinhala, etc.

Leave Benefits

Our generous leave package starts with non-MLS permanent and term employees earning 15 days of sick leave and 15 days of annual leave in their first year, as well as up to three additional personal days each calendar year.
