Responsibilities: This position will be a hands-on practitioner who both builds AI solutions for the College and helps employees use the AI tools PJC adopts to improve teaching, learning, student support, and day-to-day operations.

Qualifications: Applicant must have a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in a relevant field, including (but not limited to) Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Data Analytics, Educational Technology, Instructional Design, or a closely related discipline. An Associate's degree plus equivalent additional professional experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree at the discretion of the College. Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience working hands-on with technology in a higher-education, K-12, government, or comparable mission-driven environment-or three (3) years of equivalent technical experience in another sector. Demonstrated practical experience using current generative-AI tools (such as ChatGPT, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, or similar) for real work, beyond casual experimentation. Experience supporting end users-faculty, staff, students, or comparable populations-in a help-desk, training, or technical-support capacity. Hands-on experience building applications or chatbots with large language models, including self-hosted or local models, retrieval-augmented generation, or AI features delivered through cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure preferred. Direct experience in a community college, regional public university, or rural-serving institution preferred. Experience administering or integrating with a learning-management system (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, Brightspace), a student information system, or a customer-relationship-management system preferred. Familiarity with the Texas higher-education environment, including FERPA, the Texas Public Information Act, and accessibility standards preferred. Industry-recognized certifications or substantive coursework in AI, data, instructional design, or relevant Microsoft, Google, or AWS technologies preferred. Teaching, tutoring, or training experience preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) communications skills preferred. Strong working knowledge of how modern generative AI tools behave, including their typical failure modes (hallucination, bias, prompt sensitivity) and basic mitigations. Demonstrated ability to write clear, effective prompts and to iterate on them based on observed outputs. Demonstrated software development ability sufficient to build and maintain small applications and integrations, including practical experience with Python and/or JavaScript, version control (such as Git), and working with databases using SQL. Working understanding of how to consume and build REST APIs and integrate separate systems, and comfort building automations using tools such as Microsoft Power Automate, Copilot Studio, Zapier, or n8n. Familiarity with deploying and running AI models, including the concepts behind self-hosted or local open-weight models (using tools such as Ollama or comparable runtimes) and retrieval-augmented generation with embeddings and a vector store, or clear capacity and motivation to learn these quickly. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences without condescension. Patience, empathy, and a service mindset when supporting colleagues at very different technical comfort levels. Sound judgement regarding privacy, academic integrity, and intellectual property in technology use. Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, video conferencing, and standard help-desk and project-management tools. Reliable transportation and willingness to travel regularly among the Paris, Greenville, and Sulphur Springs campuses.

Salary: The annual salary range for this position is $52,000 - $72,000 and the actual starting salary will be dependent upon education and experience of the chosen candidate.

Fringe Benefits: This position covers health insurance at 100% for employee. Additional optional coverages include dental, vision, AD&D, life insurance, and long- and short-term disability. Other benefits include retirement under the Teacher Retirement System of Texas, accrued sick leave, vacation, paid holidays, and an employee reimbursement/dependent scholarship program. Health benefits require a 60-day employment period.

Application Procedures: Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; however, the search committee will begin reviewing applications on July 13, 2026. Candidates cannot be guaranteed full consideration if materials are received after that date. A Paris Junior College Application for Employment, cover letter, resume, copy of all college/university transcripts, and a list of references are required.
