    Job Goal

    To supervise custodial staff in the execution of custodial duties for the Huntsville City School System's schools and facilities for the purpose of maintaining a clean, sanitary, and attractive educational environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Supervises custodial staff to directly assist with resolving issues, providing information, and ensuring quality of custodial services performed in keeping with directives and cleanliness standards established by the Huntsville City School System.
    • Manages custodial staff and contractors as assigned, coordinates the training of new hires, and provides direction, support, and information related to the proper cleaning and sanitizing of schools and other facilities.
    • Ensures sufficient coverage for custodial needs within schools on a daily basis by coordinating work schedules, assigning custodial duties, prioritizing workloads, and overseeing work activities for the purpose of ensuring assignments are completed in a timely manner.
    • Plans and conducts periodic custodial meetings and/or training sessions to discuss and provide instruction on proper and safe cleaning techniques, equipment use, custodial procedures, chemical handling, and other information as needed.
    • Conducts inspections of HCS schools and facilities regularly or on as-needed basis and meets with principals to discuss and address any needs, concerns, or feedback regarding cleanliness of school buildings and facilities.
    • Reviews requests for custodial supplies and equipment and selects, orders, and delivers as needed in order to maintain a current and correct inventory.
    • Assists in the coordination of necessary staff and equipment to arrange a summer cleaning program that will ensure needed custodial support for schools and facilities.
    • Works with a variety of HCS staff to support and coordinate services needed in relation to the use of district facilities for approved school functions, special events, and extracurricular activities.
    • Inspects and maintains fire extinguishers on a regularly scheduled basis to ensure proper working order.
    • Utilizes the school district's online maintenance work order management system to enter and update data necessary to fulfill job functions and complete projects within the established time frame.
    • Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities.
    • Selects personnel and conducts performance appraisals on assigned employees and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action to ensure a standard of accountability is met as defined by the department's goals and objectives, as well as the policies established by the Huntsville City School System.
    • Provides and ensures employees' participation in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.
    • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving operating procedures to improve efficiency and effective use of school resources.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Qualifications A high school diploma with a minimum of three (3) years of experience in custodial work is required. Some college and/or supervisory experience is preferred. Must possess a valid Alabama driver's license.

    Physical Requirements Requires exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

    Terms of Employment Twelve month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
