The Records Management Section of the Archives Division of the Secretary of State is seeking an Archives Specialist A, B, or C to assist state agencies and the records management program with their records management needs.

AN IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING COMPETENCIES:

  • Communicating Effectively: The ability to convey information, ideas, and emotions using structured communication methods that promote understanding and engagement.
  • Thinking Critically: The ability to analyze information objectively, identify connections across sources, and form logical, well-supported conclusions.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in historical research, archival operations, records management, records preservation, or college-level teaching in a humanities field; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelors degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Research state and federal laws regarding records management.
  • Meets with state and parish government representatives to assist them in developing and managing their records in an efficient and economical manner.
  • Collaborates with state and parish government agencies in the development of their records retention schedules.
  • Reviews state and parish government agencies disposal requests to determine if their records have met retention and are eligible for destruction.
  • Presents training to state and parish government agencies on records management practices.

  • Possesses a working knowledge of Louisianas governmental organizational structures, operations, and functions.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to learning.
