Architect III, Science & Technology
Boulder, Colorado | Hybrid
If you’re an architect with Science & Technology experience who wants more than simply stepping into the next project, this could be an opportunity to help shape what comes next.
Our client, a well-established and growing architecture and interior design firm, is expanding its Science & Technology practice in Colorado. They’re looking for an experienced architect who can bring strong technical and client leadership to complex projects while playing a meaningful role in building the S&T practice in Boulder.
This is an opportunity to join a collaborative, entrepreneurial office where you’ll have visibility, autonomy, and the ability to make an impact. You’ll work on highly technical and interesting projects, help guide clients through complex design challenges, mentor developing professionals, and have a voice in how the practice grows.
What You’ll Have the Opportunity to Do
You’ll be involved throughout the full project lifecycle, from early conversations and proposals through design, documentation, construction, and final delivery.
In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to:
Lead the technical design and delivery of complex Science & Technology projects
Work directly with clients and user groups to understand highly technical operational requirements and translate them into thoughtful architectural solutions
Lead client meetings, ask the right questions, and help clients navigate complex design decisions
Work on projects that may include quantum technology facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing, life sciences, R&D environments, wet and dry labs, cleanrooms, advanced manufacturing, and other highly technical facilities
Coordinate with engineers, specialty consultants, contractors, and internal project teams
Provide technical direction while remaining actively engaged in project work and documentation
Mentor and develop emerging architects and designers
Participate in proposals, interviews, industry events, and relationship development
Help build and shape a growing Science & Technology practice in Colorado
You’ll work alongside dedicated project management and firm leadership, allowing you to focus initially on technical and client leadership while expanding into broader project management, business development, or leadership responsibilities as your interests and career develop.
Why This Opportunity?
For the right person, one of the most compelling parts of this role is the chance to help build something rather than simply inherit it.
Our client is growing and pursuing increasingly sophisticated Science & Technology work in Colorado, including opportunities within the rapidly developing quantum sector. You’ll have access to the resources and expertise of an established S&T practice while also having the freedom to help shape the local market.
You can expect:
Interesting, technically challenging project work
The opportunity to make a visible impact within a growing practice
Direct access to firm and office leadership
A collaborative, laid-back, entrepreneurial team
Flexibility and autonomy in how you work
Opportunities to mentor and influence the development of others
Exposure to clients and the business side of architecture
Long-term growth into broader leadership responsibilities
Potential future ownership/share opportunities for the right person
A hybrid work environment, typically with Tuesday through Thursday in the office and Monday and Friday working remotely
Paid relocation for the right candidate
What Will Help You Thrive Here
You don’t need to come in with a book of business, and you don’t need to be an expert in every Science & Technology specialty.
You should, however, bring a strong technical foundation, experience with complex project environments, and the confidence to sit across the table from clients and help guide the conversation.
You’ll likely be a strong fit if you bring:
A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or equivalent experience
Current architectural licensure
Significant architectural experience with the ability to independently provide technical and client leadership
Experience delivering technically complex architectural projects
Science & Technology experience or closely related experience that translates well to highly serviced, technically demanding environments
Strong experience with construction documentation, detailing, specifications, consultant coordination, and construction administration
The ability to lead client and user-group meetings and translate complex requirements into design solutions
Experience mentoring and developing other architects or designers
Strong communication, organization, and team leadership skills
An interest in developing client relationships and participating in the growth of a practice
Experience with laboratories, cleanrooms, pharmaceutical or life science environments, advanced manufacturing, quantum facilities, research facilities, or similar technically complex project types would be especially valuable.
Familiarity with specialized laboratory systems, utilities, high-demand MEP infrastructure, cleanroom environments, ISO standards, cGMP, FDA requirements, or other S&T-specific standards is also beneficial, but you do not need to be an expert in every area.
Existing relationships within the Colorado Science & Technology community would be a plus, but they are not required. What matters more is that you enjoy building relationships and want to become part of growing the practice.
The Environment
This is a team that values people who take initiative, collaborate well, hold themselves to a high standard, and don’t need to be micromanaged.
You’ll do well here if you enjoy having room to create your own path, are comfortable when every step isn’t already mapped out, and like the idea of contributing to the direction of a growing office.
The culture is collaborative, flexible, and entrepreneurial, with a team that genuinely enjoys working together and has a strong track record of retaining its people.
Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this exempt position is $105,000–$125,000, depending on experience.
Our client also offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k) plan with employer match; paid vacation, sick time, holidays, and volunteer time; a flexible hybrid work environment; and paid relocation for the right candidate.
If you’re ready for an opportunity where you can bring your technical expertise to challenging Science & Technology projects while helping shape a growing practice, we’d love to talk with you.
