Job Posting Information

Lincoln Parks and Recreation is seeking a skilled and motivated Arborist I to join our team dedicated to the care, maintenance, and preservation of our City trees. This position performs a variety of skilled tasks related to public tree maintenance, snow removal, and equipment upkeep in a safe, efficient, and community-focused manner.

Work involves responsibility for the pruning, repairing, and removal of City trees; and the operation and maintenance of specialized tree care equipment. Much of the work is hazardous, requires considerable strength and agility, and is performed outdoors in all types of weather.

What Youll Do:

  • Tree Maintenance & Arboricultural Work

  • Perform tasks such as pruning, topping, trunk and stump removal, trunk injection, and emergency storm response.

  • Operate and maintain arboricultural tools and equipment including chain saws, pole pruners, aerial bucket trucks, chippers, stump grinders, and front-end loaders.

  • Equipment Maintenance

  • Conduct daily inspections and minor field repairs of tools and equipment.

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including fueling, cleaning, lubricating, and sharpening.

  • Utilize and understand asset management systems such as Beehive.

  • Teamwork & Public Interaction

  • Work cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

  • Provide courteous and professional customer service.

Hours: Full time; M - F; 40 hours per week; 7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Qualifications: Graduation from high school or equivalent; or any combination of training and experience that provides the desirable knowledge, abilities and skills

Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid drivers license. Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL) is required or the ability to obtain within 90 days of appointment. Successful completion of the City of Lincolns First-Class Arborist Examination within 6 months of appointment. Nebraska Certified Pesticide Applicator License within 6 months of appointment.

I understand that in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and Department of Transportation Regulations, each individual conditionally hired for a safety sensitive position is subject to mandatory drug and alcohol testing. Any applicant who refuses or fails to execute the City/Countys general consent and release form to be drug and alcohol tested, who refuses or fails to execute the City/Countys authorization to obtain past drug and alcohol test results forms, who refuses or fails to submit to a pre-employment/pre-duty drug and alcohol test as directed, or whose result is positive for either test, will not be considered eligible to work for the City/County. Existing workers who test positive will not be considered qualified for the position for which they are applying and will also be subject to the City/County discipline, up to and including discharge. All pre-employment job applicants covered by this policy who test positive will not be hired. If upon retest the results are found to be negative, the City/County will reimburse the costs involved with the retest. If the results of the retest, are positive, the cost will not be reimbursed.
