DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Aquatic Director is responsible for the overall management, safety, and operation of the Citys beachfronts and waterfront recreation areas. This role provides leadership to lifeguard staff, ensures public safety, and maintains compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. The Aquatics Director serves as the primary liaison between the city administration, public safety officials, and the community regarding beachfront operations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Direct and oversee the daily operations of all city-managed beachfronts, including lifeguard towers, first aid stations, and public access areas.

Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and supervise lifeguards and seasonal aquatics staff.

Develop and enforce policies, procedures, and safety protocols for beach operations.

Coordinate with police, fire, and emergency management to ensure effective response plans for water rescues, weather emergencies, and public safety incidents.

Conduct regular beach inspections for safety hazards, signage, and equipment functionality.

Monitor and maintain compliance with state and local health, safety, and environmental standards.

Organize and deliver ongoing staff training, including lifeguard certifications, CPR, First Aid, and in-service drills.

Develop and manage the aquatics budget, including staffing, equipment, and facility needs.

Prepare seasonal operational reports, incident logs, and safety statistics for city leadership.

Communicate effectively with the public regarding rules, safety guidelines, and beach conditions.

Collaborate with the city department and community organizations on special events, educational programs, and public outreach related to waterfront safety.

Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and emerging trends in beachfront safety and aquatic recreation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be or willing to become CPR/First Aid, Lifeguard certified, and maintain certification.

Must be attentive and able to give directions.

Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for lengthy periods of time and lift to 50 lbs.

Must be able to swim 500 yards nonstop.

Must be able to work weekends.

EDUCATION

High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED)
