Under the direction of the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Coordinator provides day-to-day support of aquatic classes, instructors and pool area to ensure aquatic staff members are providing high-quality,member-focused programs in a safety controlled environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Works with supervisor to ensure that the aquatics programming needs of members are being met through staffing and scheduling of YMCA swim lesson program.
- Serves as a leader on the pool deck. Incorporates safe supervision practices while deck supervising, instructing and life-guarding. Follows all safety guidelines.
- Communicates effectively with program participants and answers questions as needed. Reports problems, complaints or concerns of program participants to the aquatic director in a timely fashion. Addresses parent concerns in a professional and positive manner.
- Supervises and maintains aquatic programming and safety during designated shift.
- Assists staff, including lifeguards and swim instructors, locate and secure coverage upon absence. Provides coverage when necessary.
- Provides swim lesson instruction under the guidelines of the Y Swim Lessons Program.
- Assists with general pool maintenance.
- Prepares for programming, organizes rosters, announces roll call, and takes attendance.
- Guides new and seasoned swim instructors with constructive criticism and positive reinforcement. Promotes teamwork and unity.
- Assists in the evaluation of swim participants and the recordings of evaluations for registration purposes.
- Assists in the administration and distribution of progress reports to Instructors and then to swim participants. Proofreads all progress reports prior to releasing them to swim participants.
- Assists with session planning through communication of current class participation, swimmer advancement & placement, etc.
- Ensures aquatic safety by enforcing sound teaching methods under Y Swim Lesson principles, maintenance of proper discipline and class control.
- Assists in pool schedule design, helping to ensure that pool time is used to the fullest extent.
- Obtains training in the Listen First program and implements it into everyday operations at the YMCA; serves as a mentor to staff in their implementation of the program.
- Conducts performance evaluations as requested by Aquatics Director.
- Assists with First Aid concerns.
- Attends all staff meetings and in-service trainings.
- Accountable for understanding the organization's charitable status and mission to assure access for all through active participation in fundraising and philanthropy efforts.
- Is committed to child abuse prevention, including adhering to all child protection policies and procedures, completing required abuse prevention training and reporting suspicious or
inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- All other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Director.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- One to two years related experience, preferably as an Aquatics Coordinator
- Must possess Swim Instructor certification or possess notable experience with the YMCA Swim Lesson Program
- Experience working with diverse populations preferred, with a commitment to inclusion and belonging
- Strong communication skills with participants, parents/guardians, and YMCA members
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team with other YMCA staff
Schedule: 40 hours per week - must be available to work nights and weekends
Pay: $22 - 24 per hour
