The Aquatics Coordinator is a key member of the YMCA Aquatics Leadership Team and works collaboratively with the Aquatics & Safety Director and fellow Aquatics Coordinator to ensure the safe, efficient, and successful operation of the Aquatics Department. The position provides day-to-day leadership and supervision of aquatics staff while supporting high-quality programming, exceptional customer service, and a safe, welcoming environment for members and guests.
Primary responsibilities may be reassigned or modified by the Aquatics & Safety Director based on operational needs, staffing changes, or organizational priorities. While each Coordinator has designated areas of primary responsibility, both are expected to support one another and provide coverage as needed to maintain seamless department operations.
Aquatics Coordinator:
- Experience in aquatics management, including staff supervision, program and swim lesson administration, registration, and pool maintenance.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
- Coordinate the daily operation of the aquatic facility by ensuring appropriate staffing, equipment readiness, facility cleanliness, and ensure high-quality and efficient program delivery.
- Respond to emergencies in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
- Assume operational responsibility for assigned days of the week, including responding to employee call-offs, resolving same-day staffing shortages, securing substitute staff, or covering shifts as necessary to maintain required staffing levels and safe operations.
- Support the administration and growth of aquatic programs, including swim lessons, private instruction, safety education, assessments, registrations, enrollment management, and other revenue-generating programs.
- Serve as a working leader by providing direct program support as needed, including working as a Lifeguard or Swim Lesson Instructor to ensure safe and uninterrupted operations.
- Manage daily swim lesson operations, including class assignments, instructor support, participant assessments, class changes, and overall program quality.
- Communicate with swim lesson parents and participants regarding class placement, progress, schedules, concerns, and program expectations while providing exceptional customer service.
- Complete Swim Lesson Instructor evaluations by observing instruction, providing coaching and feedback, and supporting ongoing professional development and program quality.
- Conduct regular lifeguard drop audits and observations to ensure staff remain vigilant, engaged, and compliant with YMCA lifeguarding and risk management standards.
- Deliver exceptional customer service by responding to participant and parent inquiries, resolving concerns, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for members and guests.
- Assist with special events, community outreach, grant opportunities, and water safety initiatives that expand access to aquatic programming and promote participant engagement.
- Collaborate with the Aquatics & Safety Director and other YMCA departments to support organizational goals, maintain department records, communicate operational needs, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- A combination of directly related experience, training and education, or 2 year degree in a directly related field.
- Current Lifeguard Certification (will certify if able to pass swimming requirements)
- Within 6 months of hire: Lifeguard Instructor Certification

Shifts Needed:
Typical work schedule is Tuesday through Friday full days and half day Saturday. Schedule can be discussed and explained in more detail during interview.
