Applications Engineer (Entry-Level to Mid-Level)

Department: Engineering
Reports to: Senior Engineer & Systems Manager
Location: Onsite, Superior, Colorado

Salary Range:  $70,000 – 110,000 – Salary will depend on years of experience

POSITION SUMMARY

As an Applications Engineer, you’ll collaborate with sales and engineering teams, design and test tooling using CAD and simulation, and support integration into robotic production lines. Work on global projects while using AI and digital tools to improve designs and project delivery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the sales and automation engineering teams to understand customer
  • requirements and identify optimal magnetic tool solutions.
  • Design and locate magnetic tools and custom accessories using 3D CAD (SolidWorks
  • preferred) for automation applications.
  • Utilize automation system knowledge (robotics, PLC, HMI, sensors) to support integration into
  • customer production lines.
  • Use AI and digital tools (e.g., CoPilot, SharePoint workflows, simulation analysis) to enhance
  • design processes and project efficiency.
  • Set up and evaluate FEA simulations (ANSYS preferred) for magnet performance in customer
  • environments.
  • Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOMs) in ERP systems (NetSuite).
  • Generate 2D fabrication drawings and dimensional overlays.
  • Document technical work and generate milestone reports throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Interface with international teams and support global projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and technical experience.
  • Entry level: 0–2 years of relevant experience. Internships, co-ops, laboratory work, and substantial engineering projects are welcome.
  • Mid-level: Minimum of three years of relevant applications, mechanical, manufacturing, automation, or customer-facing engineering experience.
  • Experience with robotics, tooling, industrial sensors, PLCs, and control systems.
  • Advanced skills in SolidWorks (or similar 3D CAD platforms).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, GD&T, and FEA.
  • Experience working in or with international teams or customers (preferred).
  • Proven ability to manage documentation, record-keeping, and cross-functional communication. 
  • Hands-on problem-solving skills and the ability to organize tests, analyze results, and document conclusions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, a customer-focused approach, and effective collaboration across technical and commercial teams.
