Applications Engineer

Summary

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking an Applications Engineer to support customers and partners across the Americas Wood business. This role provides application expertise, training, integration, consulting, and technical support for production software solutions used in woodworking and related manufacturing environments.

The Applications Engineer works closely with customers and internal commercial and service teams to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges, and help customers apply software and CNC workflows effectively.

What You''ll Do

Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligence is seeking an Applications Engineer to support customers and partners across the Americas Wood business. This role provides application expertise, training, integration, consulting, and technical support for production software solutions used in woodworking and related manufacturing environments.

The Applications Engineer works closely with customers and internal commercial and service teams to understand requirements, resolve technical challenges, and help customers apply software and CNC workflows effectively.

• Deliver online, on-site, and regional product training ranging from introductory through advanced application use.
• Perform on-site software and CNC integration, including configuration, testing, troubleshooting, and customer handover.
• Consult with customers to understand operational requirements, recommend practical workflows, and support successful implementation and adoption.
• Provide application support to existing and prospective customers and partners, resolving software, workflow, and related technical issues through follow-up.
• Develop and modify customer-specific programming, reports, user coordinate systems, catalogues, libraries, and other application content as required.
• Create or modify post processors and related CNC configurations to support customer equipment and manufacturing requirements.
• Translate customer requirements into clear technical recommendations and communicate product capabilities, limitations, and solutions to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Document technical procedures, customer configurations, solutions, and process improvements to support repeatable service delivery and knowledge sharing.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant Hexagon production software, woodworking workflows, CNC technologies, operating systems, and associated peripherals.
• Manage assigned work independently, prioritising customer needs, travel commitments, and project deadlines while collaborating effectively with internal teams.
• Complete required administrative documentation, including expense reports, project records, customer documentation, and backup files accurately and on time.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Must Have

• 5+ years of relevant experience in applications engineering, technical support, software implementation, CNC integration, manufacturing technology, or a closely related technical field. Equivalent practical experience will be considered in place of a four-year degree.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot software, application, and workflow issues, identify root causes, and carry solutions through resolution and customer follow-up.
• Experience supporting or integrating CNC equipment, manufacturing software, or comparable technical production systems.
• Experience delivering customer-facing technical training, demonstrations, consulting, or application support.
• Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to users with different levels of experience.
• Ability to work independently in a remote role, organise competing priorities, and make sound day-to-day decisions while knowing when to escalate or seek guidance.
• Ability and willingness to travel up to 60% based on customer and business needs.
• Ability to work effectively across customer, sales, service, and technical teams while maintaining accurate documentation and professional follow-through.

Nice to Have

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing technology, computer science, or another relevant technical discipline.
• Experience with Hexagon production software solutions or comparable CAD/CAM, woodworking, or manufacturing software.
• Experience creating or modifying post processors, CNC configurations, reports, catalogues, libraries, or customer-specific application content.
• Experience supporting woodworking, cabinetry, furniture, stone, composites, or related manufacturing environments.
• Experience working with resellers, channel partners, or geographically distributed customers.

Work Environment

• This is a remote position based in the United States, with travel of up to 60% to customer, partner, and other business locations across the Americas.
• Work is performed in a home-office environment and at customer manufacturing, training, and production sites; conditions and noise levels may vary by location.
• The role regularly requires computer use, verbal and written communication, and movement within customer manufacturing environments.
• The role may occasionally require bending, kneeling, and lifting or moving equipment or materials weighing up to 60 pounds.
• Required personal protective equipment will be used when applicable at customer or manufacturing locations.
