About the Opportunity
Our client is a leading manufacturer of high-precision CNC grinding equipment and advanced grinding solutions serving the aerospace, defense, and machinery industries. We are seeking an experienced Senior Grinding Applications Engineer with strong hands-on CNC grinding experience to join their engineering team.
This is an onsite position initially, with the opportunity to transition to a hybrid schedule after onboarding. Relocation assistance is available.
Position Summary
The Senior Grinding Applications Engineer will develop and implement turnkey CNC grinding processes, tooling, and applications from concept through customer runoff. This position combines technical engineering, process development, troubleshooting, customer interaction, and project leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop grinding process plans, cost estimates, and time studies.
- Specify grinding wheels, abrasives, arbors, tooling, and fixturing.
- Lead process development and machine runoff at company and customer facilities.
- Conduct grinding trials, testing, and process optimization.
- Troubleshoot grinding and machine performance issues.
- Support machine design and development of new grinding technologies.
- Work closely with Mechanical, Electrical, and Applications Engineering teams.
- Provide technical support during machine assembly, commissioning, and field service.
- Travel to customer and vendor facilities as required.
- Mentor junior engineers and support project planning and design reviews.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of practical experience in the grinding industry.
- Strong hands-on CNC grinding experience is required.
- Expertise in precision grinding technologies, abrasives, equipment, and processes.
- Knowledge of machine tool applications and manufacturing processes.
- Strong mechanical and engineering aptitude with excellent troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with 3D CAD and AutoCAD 2D.
- SolidWorks experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with FEA is preferred.
- Strong communication and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
