About the Position
The Mississippi Department of Education is seeking an Applications Developer IV. As an Applications Developer IV, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and supporting data reporting solutions that provide meaningful information for decision-making and state, federal and public reporting. This role develops interactive dashboards, paginated reports, and ad hoc analyses using enterprise reporting tools and complex SQL queries to transform data into accurate, useful, and accessible information. This position also supports the development and implementation of reporting procedures, standards, and documentation practices to improve consistency and efficiency across reporting activities. The role works collaboratively with technical staff, program areas, and leadership to organize reporting processes, manage data requests, and ensure high-quality reporting solutions while supporting established reporting initiatives and team priorities. Responsibilities will include: • Design, develop, and maintain interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI. • Develop and maintain paginated reports using Power BI Report Builder, including conversion from SSRS, Crystal Reports, or similar reporting tools. • Write and optimize complex SQL queries and datasets to support ad hoc requests and recurring reporting needs. • Analyze and validate data to ensure reporting accuracy, consistency, and quality. • Translate business requirements into technical reporting solutions. • Analyze Federal reporting requirements to ensure accurate and compliant report submissions. • Support the development and implementation of reporting standards, procedures, and documentation. • Collaborate with internal teams and stakeholders to identify reporting needs and deliver solutions. • Recommend process improvements and opportunities for automation and efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 7-10+ years of IT experience with emphasis in applications development and support. •Hiring agency Prefers: Experience with public reporting environments, data governance practices, and educational or state agency data systems. Experience with Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) and/or ED Facts reporting is a plus. Special Qualifications: • Experience developing Power BI dashboards and interactive reporting solutions. • Experience developing paginated reports using Power BI Report Builder, SSRS, Crystal Reports, or similar tools. • Strong experience writing complex SQL queries for reporting and data analysis. • Experience organizing processes, establishing standards, and improving workflow efficiency.
