Job Overview
We are looking for a dedicated systems specialist to administer, optimize, and enhance the user experience of our Engineering Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure. Your expertise will support and complement our Digital Technology team's efforts in providing top-notch desktop engineering solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and manage the Windows Virtual Desktop environment, ensuring smooth image, session, and application delivery.
- Identify and resolve VDI pain points to improve desktop responsiveness and application reliability.
- Oversee Windows VDI base image lifecycle, including OS patching, application deployment, and standardization.
- Lead user data migration efforts and manage onboarding workflows for new and migrating VDI users.
- Troubleshoot complex application compatibility issues and serve as an escalation point for desktop-tier issues.
- Monitor VDI session performance and provide capacity data for provisioning decisions.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and support vulnerability remediation workflows.
- Collaborate with the Digital Technology team on infrastructure changes and provide desktop expertise.
Requirements
- Deep expertise with Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy, and Windows application delivery.
- Experience troubleshooting complex application compatibility and performance issues in a multi-user desktop environment.
- Experience with enterprise VDI platforms (e.g., Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware Horizon, AWS WorkSpaces).
- Proficiency with Windows image management, patching, and lifecycle tooling (SCCM/Intune or similar).
- Strong understanding of user profile management, roaming profiles, and folder redirection in virtual environments.
- Windows Virtual Desktop Infrastructure administration experience in an enterprise environment.
- U.S. export-controlled information access authorization.
Preferences
- AWS WorkSpaces or cloud-based VDI administration experience.
- Experience in a dual protocol (Windows Linux) mixed VDI environment.
- Experience supporting engineering or scientific applications in a VDI environment.
- Familiarity with software packaging, deployment automation, and Software Store/app delivery models.
- Scripting skills (PowerShell) for administration and automation.
