Class Summary

Job Description

This position is in the Business Services Division and coordinates and responds to on-call requests in the field; maintains computerized databases and manual logs on maintenance schedules, repairs, problems with fire apparatus; schedules and coordinates the repair of vehicles and equipment; performs small engine repairs and maintenance; prepares a variety of fire apparatus standards and reports; notifies appropriate personnel of preventative maintenance schedules for vehicles and equipment; prepares related paperwork and ensures delivery of vehicles to fleet maintenance facilities; performs preventative maintenance and repairs on applicable rescue tools; conducts annual tests for fire apparatus; records and maintains test results; and performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Essential Duties

  • Maintains appropriate stock and supply levels.
  • Prepares a variety of fire apparatus standards and reports.
  • Notifies appropriate personnel of preventative maintenance schedules for fire apparatus vehicles and equipment; prepares related paperwork and ensures delivery of vehicles to fleet maintenance facilities.
  • Coordinates equipment installations; participates in installing equipment such as mobile data terminals and radios.
  • Repairs and maintains apparatus hoses and nozzles.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on applicable rescue tools.
  • Conducts annual tests for fire apparatus; records and maintains test results.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Public Speaking Duties

  • Staff meetings, in service training sessions, and giving giving reports when requested.

Other Job Requirements/Information

  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • This job requires a public safety background is required to include motor vehicle & criminal histories, and fingerprinting.
  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

Grade

The grade for this position is B24(2).

Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Diesel or Automotive Repair; AND
  • Three years of progressively responsible mechanic experience; AND
  • Permanent Class A, B, E or F drivers license must be obtained within 90 days of hire; OR
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
