Job Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) provides expert clinical guidance in a specialized field and coordinates patient care quality initiatives. This role will require varying shifts on-call rotations, including nights and weekends as needed. Provides service to patients in acute, short, and long-term care settings by assisting physicians, assessing patients, and treating injuries and ailments.
Responsibilities
Obtains a thorough medical history from patients and dependent on patient population and setting.
Performs an examination and/or assessment to determine patients needs.
With other healthcare professionals, analyzes and interprets information collected from patient medical records, symptoms, physical findings, or diagnostic information to develop and establish an appropriate diagnosis.
Acknowledges and demonstrates the importance of care coordination and navigation by rounding on patients when necessary.
Works in collaboration with providers and independently to provide care.
Formulates a plan for treatment of the patient and prescribes medications based on efficacy, safety, and cost, as legally authorized if necessary, to aid recovery and manage pain.
Maintains complete and detailed records of patients health care plans and prognoses in a timely manner.
Consults with or refers patients to appropriate specialists when conditions exceed the scope of practice or expertise.
Provides patients with information needed to promote health, reduce risk factors, or prevent disease or disability.
Counsels patients and family members about self-management, prevention, and treatment plans for health issues, tailoring instructions to patients individual circumstances.
May cover hospital consultations, rounding, and assist with patient procedures as needed.
Conducts research into the area of specialty and uses findings to provide measurable improvements in patient care and clinical outcomes.
Incorporates evidence-based practice guidelines into care.
Maintains current knowledge of state legal regulations for advanced practice provider practices, including reimbursement of services.
Keeps abreast of regulatory processes and payer systems, such as Medicare, Medicaid, managed care, and private sources, as applicable.
Demonstrates extensive advanced knowledge of medical principles, practices, and techniques.
Qualifications
Masters or Baccalaureate degree
Associates or Nursing Degree, if training prior to 1994
Successful completion of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors
Schedule
Monday to Friday, call shifts
Holidays (number of weekends and holidays to be determined)
Clinic, hospital rounds, and assistance in the OR
New Grads will be considered
Position duties include seeing patients in the clinic, rounding on hospitalized patients, assisting in the OR, and helping with call
Team currently consists of 3 Surgical Oncologists
PA will work with 2-3 Surgical Oncologists to support the practice
Required FTE: 1.0
Requirements
Demonstrated current competence and provision of care, treatment, or services for at least 30 patients in the past twelve months or completion of an ARC-PA approved program in the past twelve months
Successful completion of the national certifying examination and current certification given by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances

Practice Details
This position will support the practice of Surgical Oncology. Time will be spent seeing patients in clinic as well as assisting in the OR. This role includes some after-hours call and potential for rounding and OR support on evenings and weekends.
