API Test Engineer - Exempt

We are seeking an experienced API Test Engineer to design, execute, and automate testing for REST based APIs supporting mission critical, bi-directional system integrations. This role focuses on service level testing and plays a key part in ensuring API reliability, security, and readiness for production.

The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of REST APIs, hands on experience with API testing tools, and the ability to translate technical requirements into robust test scenarios across functional, negative, and integration cases.

Scenarios include:

• Positive scenarios (valid inputs)
• Negative scenarios (invalid/missing data)
• Boundary conditions
• Error handling and edge cases

Commonly referenced tools in internal materials include:

• Postman
• SoapUI
• JMeter
• Ping API
• vREST

An API tester needs to understand:

• HTTP methods (GET, POST, PUT, DELETE)
• Status codes (200, 201, 400, 401, 403, 404, 500, 429)
• Request/response headers
• JSON request and response bodies

Preferred Experience:

• MUST be able to thrive in a higher stress/tighter timeframe environment
• Automation frameworks, DevOps integration, CICD are a big plus
• Manual testing environment: Insomnia, SQL database tools
• Automation testing environment: Python scripts
• Playwright plus Selenium, Zephyr Scale is preferred
• Experience with Financial Services is a big plus

Additional Information:

• Duration: 12 month contract opportunity
• Hybrid Work Model: 4 days onsite required weekly in Pittsburgh, PA
• Rate Range: $70-75/hr. W2 (based on experience)
