Position Summary

Coordinate the collection and review of digital imagery and video in support of the Albuquerque Police Department. Perform site visits to various locations to physically retrieve digital evidence from various recording platforms. Will ensure integrity of retrieved digital evidence to ensure completeness, reviewability, admissibility, and accuracy in accordance to requests. Upon request, will review acquired digital evidence identifying potentially key elements to expedite case agent review. Will document and tag all collected digital evidence into appropriate systems ensuring chain of custody integrity. Will work with various units within the department to ensure requests are completed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essentialfunctions may include, but are not limited to the functions listed below. Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation.

  • Coordinate the collection of digital imagery or video from various platforms
  • Travel to various locations at varying times to retrieve a provided copy or utilize on location platforms to create a digital copy
  • Review retrieved digital evidence for accuracy and identify potentially pertinent information or data within the retrieved evidence
  • Provide summaries to various department units of the digital evidence recovered
  • Maintain chain of custody of retrieved evidence until tagged into evidence
  • Prepare and maintain a variety of technical reports and files in various platforms
  • Provide testimony when requested
  • Provide technical support to case agents upon request to review collected digital evidence.
  • Maintain supplies and equipment for the unit; order supplies as needed.
  • Provide general clerical support to administrative staff as needed.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Attend training classes related to assigned duties and responsibilities as necessary.
  • Coordinate information sharing as necessary with various Department divisions.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

Associates Degree in criminal justice; and

Three (3) years of experience in maintaining records and performing data entry.

Experience in evidence handling preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid New Mexico Drivers License, or the ability to obtain by the date of hire.

Possession of a City Operators Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

Working Conditions

Environmental:

Laboratory and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to computer screens.

Physical:

Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light lifting, walking, standing and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
