Anticipated Middle School Speech Pathologist & Special Education Subject Area Specialist

The Subject Area Specialist is responsible for the coordination of Instructional activities and shall provide leadership and innovation in alignment with the school and district vision in the pursuit of improved teaching and learning and instructional gains for all students. Under the direction of the District SPED Supervisor and the building administration, the Subject Area Specialist is primarily responsible for promoting and coordinating the efficient operation of one academic department of the school in accordance with the general school program and philosophy.

The Subject Area Specialist is responsible for the coordination of Instructional activities and shall provide leadership and innovation in alignment with the school and district vision in the pursuit of improved teaching and learning and instructional gains for all students.

Qualifications:

1. Demonstrated experience in working cooperatively and effectively with others.
2. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the department.
3. Demonstrated ability to identify effective instructional and technological resources to support curriculum requirements.
4. Experience with writing and implementing IEPs, BIP's, FBA's.
5. Broad knowledge of the principles and practices of current educational trends in Math and ILA curriculum and instruction with a strong emphasis on Common Core State Standards.
6. Broad knowledge of co-teaching strategies in the inclusive classroom.
7. Broad knowledge of special education regulations as they pertain to effective programming for students with IEPs
8. 092 certification is strongly preferred
9. 061 certification required
10. Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Facilitate teachers' use of successful, research-based Common Core instructional strategies, including differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
2. Assist in planning, developing, and implementing math and ILA curricula aligned to Common Core State Standards, including assessment schedules
3. Exhibit Leadership in the area of curriculum development.
4. Assist in developing and facilitating SPED professional learning for teachers.
5. Provides leadership in the development and analysis of data to inform curricular, instructional and assessment decisions as well as programming for students with IEPs
6. Assist with all routine matters that concern teachers in the department.
7. 1. Assist with the development and control of the department's budget.
   2. Maintain student and teacher IEP's
8. Assist the administration in hiring, training, and orientation of new teachers and support staff
9. Assist the school administration in maintaining proper school discipline by addressing classroom management concerns with department members.
10. To perform any and all other related duties assigned by the building administration.
